Clark supporters: write Rangel, write Dinkins, write Sharpton. . .RE: S.C.
. . .Al Sharpton is polling at 15% in South Carolina, if we can get Charlie Rangel and David Dinkins to reach out to Reverend Sharpton and encourage him to drop out and to endorse Gen. Clark we would have a great shot at taking S.C. It is obvious that Clark and Sharpton seem to be fond of each other and unlike CMB's last minute endorsement of Dean prior to Iowa this could have an impact because of Sharpton's respectable poll #'s.

3. From some of the results I saw on another post, Clark did exceptionally
well with "non white" voters in NH. Edwards didn't (if I remember correctly). That could tip the balance in SC towards Clark.

Wishful thinking maybe, but wish's are good.

4. Sharpton
is ahead of Clark. Why not write to Clark and encourage him to drop out and support Sharpton?

5. Well considering we are Clark supporters. . .
. . .and Clark has a better shot at capturing the nomination I am comfortable reaching out to Sharpton and asking for his support on this one.

after SC except Mississippi. Clark has potential in all 48 other states.

17. Thank you. I'm sick of people wanting my candidate to drop out.
Just because they despise him.

18. Despise Sharpton. . .absolutely not!
I have a lot of respect for him and I understand that he has a lot to offer the Clark campaign with an endorsement prior to South Carolina. . .there is nothing but respect.

21. If you think he's going to hand over his support in SC
to another candidate you don't know anything about Sharpton or about his supporters.

8. Maybe you should write to Clark
and ask him to appeal to black voters. After all, you have nothing to offer Sharpton in return for dropping out, so why do you think a letter from you will convince Sharpton to drop out?

9. Well Clark is doing a decent job in the Black community
Rep. Bobby Rush just endorsed him, add that to Rangel, Dinkins, Thurogood Marshall Jr., Mary Frances Berry, Mayor Coleman (Columbus,OH), myself and a whole host of African American DU'ers, etc. So he wis working our community hard.

19. If Clark has black support
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 11:19 AM by sangh0
then why worry about Sharpton?

And why no answer to my question about why would Sharpton drop out for Clark when Clark has nothing to offer Sharpton?

And do you really think a letter writing campaign to convince the one remaining black candidate to drop out is the wisest way to gain black support?

10. I don't think we should write Sharpton
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 10:50 AM by mmonk
to endorse Clark in the first state Sharpton has a chance to do well in. We could ask should he not get mometum in SC like he wants translating to support elsewhere, could he consider an endorsement. I'm looking more at any delegate pledge he may pick up. Our strength right now is more in Oklahoma.

15. I don't think so
Rangel knows what he's doing and when to do it. There's no need to encourage him or possibly annoy him. I am sure as I breathe that he is on the case, the man's the most powerful politician in NYC. If and when Sharpton drops out of the race, it's going to be the right time for Sharpton. Let Rangel do his job is what I think.

20. Good advice
I really don't think it will help Clark if his supporters try to give advice to black political leaders.
