Best of luck to Clark troops.
Even though the difference in votes between #3 and #4 isn't all that much, Clark just got his ticket punched by placing in top three.

That's gotta be better than how our guy did.

Congrats guys!

4. Better than the 4th place
they looked at going into this. The sad thing is Lieberman calling this a tie and a mandate to go forward. I guess he has as much right as Sharpton and Kucinich to use this as a medium to deliver his message.

7. We are pleased, as we should be
We went into NH hoping for fourth and have come out with third. Voters in other regions will view this as a native son primary and Clark's right there below the two in the race. Onward South and West!

GO WES!!

:grouphug: We did good! And so did John Edwards.

GO DEMS!!

8. So it's official??? They were calling it a tie this morning on the Today
Show. I realize they were probably being careful but is it announced...CLARK TAKES THIRD!

He is going to do well in the south, I just know it.

17. I think you will be surprised.
Unless there are some serious sways in public opinion, he wont play as well in the south as some people are touting.. atleast if actual people have anything to do with it.

40. Clark edged him out by less than two fifths of a percent.
It's awfully close, all right.

Six days is a mighty long time...

This is driving me nuts.

I hope you're right; I love Edwards and think he has EASILY the best chances to clobber Junior. Clark was the knight in shining armor who made a few missteps here and there; that alone is enough for the media to jump on him. Will this give him a bounce? We'll see.

Folks, a little bit of historical and geographical perspective is needed here.
While it would have felt better to get a higher percentage in NH and maybe even a second place, look at history and geography.
Historically, Iowa and New Hampshire are proving grounds for the candidates.  It is fairly clear now that the 'inevitable' nominee (the Dr. from Vermont) will likely not be the nominee.
The first and second place in NH were for candidates from neighboring states.  If you look at the actual distribution of precinct wins they are mostly defined by how close they are to the capital of Vermont or of Massachussets.
And regardless of how Liebermann spins it, Clark did come out ahead of a former VP candidate from a nearby state! And, the second place winner from Iowa could not use his Iowa bounce to come out ahead of Clark.
The real contest, baseball game, horse race starts now.  No matter how much Spanish Begala says the Dr. knows because he can say "Si se puede", Nuevo Mejico will be Clark country. And so can Arizona, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri, South Carolina and Delaware.
Let's get to work

10. The media is pained to mention how well Clark did...
I wonder why??? Maybe someone can give a logical explanation. Hey Tucker! Still think he is "through"? Hey FOX! Still think he's sinking like the Hindenburg? He spit in their faces. Good for him!

21. Actually Pretty Great To See Media Struggle

They built up Edwards all week, said Clark was doomed.

They want to promote Edwards into SC, but can't do that without acknowledging that Clark also has a chance in SC and beyond.

Fascinating to see them struggle.

...wow. The Times-Picayune here in New Orleans is "KERRY WINS AGAIN," underneath that "Dean still playing catch-up," and underneath that is "Edwards and Clark nearly tie" or something akin to that. I wonder...

Later.

30. Who cares?
Clark was in NH for the last freaking month!

Edwards split time between NH and SC all of last week.

The fact that he could only win 800 more votes than Edwards after spending so much time and resources there while skipping Iowa is NOTHING to be proud of.

Clark should have at least gotten 20% considering how unknown and AUTHENTICALLY SOUTHERN John Edwards is compared to someone who has been there for the last month, like Wesley Clark.

Clark's showing was more disappointing than anyone else's...

32. YES, great news
Edwards momentum has been blocked, heading into the southern primaries. Clark needs to get back on message this week and stop letting the media define him. Clark needs to talk about his tax plan every time he gets a TV interview.

36. I would like it if he lost
the whole concept of "stump speech" and went with his own words and thoughts. That's when he is at his best, just talking rather than speechifying. So when on occasion he does do the speechifying thing, it would have a whole lot of pop to it. I think this of all of them, though. They sound repetitive.

37. CNN prefers to report it as tie with Edwards
But you know if Edwards was the one with the higher numbers, they wouldn't do it that way, after the way they've been building up Edwards all week and tearing Clark down. I've been amazed to find Fox more "fair and balanced" this week than Wolf Blitzer or Crossfire on CNN.

41. Dividing the individual results into the total.
Kerry = 38.64%
Dean = 26.51%
Clark = 12.50%
Edwards = 12.12%
Lieberman = 8.64%
Kucinich = 1.42%
Sharpton = 0.16%

WHO ROUNDED CLARK'S TOTAL UP TO 13%, WHILE ROUNDING DEAN'S DOWN TO 26%?
