The Beltway big boys think DeLay is a goner. He's there to Talk Seriously, but it's merely to entertain at this point. Dean is becoming an increasingly important player and might have the GOP on the ropes this time next year, but rather than playing along with the pundit game of prognostication and pontification he shows up and cracks dirty prep school jokes. People like Matthews are trying to give him something of a hazing and respect for the Beltway pundit food chain.
