At least, that is how I am reading it.

Bush: Rebuilding Must Address Inequality
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Friday the Gulf Coast must be rebuilt with an eye toward wiping out the persistent poverty and racial injustice plain to all in the suffering of the black and the poor in Hurricane Katrina's wake.

"As we clear away the debris of a hurricane, let us also clear away the legacy of inequality," Bush said during a national prayer service with other political leaders and religious figures from the affected region at the National Cathedral.

Also Friday, White House officials said that taxpayers will pay the bill for the massive reconstruction program and it will worsen the nation's budget deficit.

Ooo! New Orleans as a rich enclave, AND a perfect excuse for years of fiscal malfeasance by the Bush Administration! I certainly hope Shrub doesn't hit another trifecta.

1. No. We CANNOT allow this to happen
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 02:26 PM by ...of J.Temperance
It's of absolute paramount importance that this is prevented. I'm hoping that Baton Rouge has a good plan to counteract the kicking out of the black folks to leave it for the stuffy, frigid GOP white folks.

The latter should move some place else if they don't like it. The former make the Crescent City what it is, they've given it culture and depth and mystery and heart and soul and spirit...therefore it's THEY that should be first in line to be allowed to move back. Let idiot bigots like Ashton O'Dwyer and his mouthbreathers move out.

On edit: Also, ANYBODY with a completely STUPID name like Nedra Pickler, should NOT be taken seriously.

2. We should challenge the administration
to apply this statement to ALL cities: "let us also clear away the legacy of inequality." Ha! Like they give a shit.

Of course, you are right. This is just a PR/photo op statement. They will build NOLA with no thought or concern whatsoever to the poor people that use to reside there. I honestly believe the majority of the evacuees will never make it back to NOLA. They lack the economic resources to do so & bushco doesn't want them there.
