It's perfectly possible to assign responsibility for mistakes and take action to make amends. People do it all the time. The idea that it is some kind of zero-sum game to assign blame is ludicrous.

Then again, the idea that it is a "game" in the first place is ludicrous.

2. Possible is a good word.
They should have gone to work immediately and as such, would not have had time to appear and point fingers. The difference between phonies and people of action.
