I met a Syrian Christian today......
She has been in this country for about four years....

She told me I was the first person she has met outside of college who knew where Damascus was....

We talked, briefly, about the war, about the new king and about how Bush was riling up folks over Syria because the American's would never attack the true enemy, Saudi Arabia....

She thinks that Iraq is going to fall apart, splinter into three separate "states" that will cause problems for the whole middle east and the world for decades to come......

Kurds have substantial populations in Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran....

They have been pushing hard to be liberated and free since the Ottoman days....

The beast has been unleashed.....

3. That is one reason they didn't allow planes and supplies to be
delivered to Iraq via Turkey at the beginning of the war....

4. Very true. The Kurds are transforming into a major force
And as a major player in Iraq politics, they can get real power by controlling their share of the oil profits.

Not that I think they should be kept down, but an independant Kurdistan is going to involve a lot of countries and open very old wounds.

And to think, George Bush started this spark which will lead to a conflagration. Nice job!

7. I wrote about this very detail over in Bart cop
during the run up to the war....

This lady was very upset about the continued drum beat against her country by the Bush Administration....

She said she had been shunned by some, a minority, once they find out where she comes from...

She use to say Syria but now says Damascus.....

8. The Kurds have wanted autonomy longer than that.
And for a time, they even ruled in Damascas -- Saladin, another son of Tikrit, started a short-lived dynasty.
