1. Yep, here's where the rubber meets the road.
The few things I have seen, the general population of NO aren't too pleased with the mayor.

3. Bush is working Nagin like the narcissist he is
Dirtying Blanco behind her back. Dirtying any Democratic official in Louisiana and trying to convince Nagin that Bush is really "a good man" and "oh man was he mad about what he saw."

Bush is doing what a narcissist does best - manipulating Nagin.

I pray that Nagin catches on.

I know they're doing the work, fighting the good fight, but enough time has passed that I truly feel it will damage her if she doesn't speak for herself soon and respond to the criticism.

10. I heard on AAR yesterday
that Nagin was once a Republican, but had recently changed parties. So it wouldn't really a betrayal as much as a returning home. Anyone have any source to verify this claim, btw?

26. Nagin supported her republican opponent in the gubernatorial
race..Bobby Jindal who is currently serving as a congressman. Nagin was a repub...who switched parties to run as a democrat, and won the run off with majority white support. Nagin doesn't have to catch on...he's just trying to figure out how much it will benefit him to smear Blanco entirely.

Yes, it would be fun to bash Bush all the time, but he's made his views clear on who is to blame, and that being done, he needs to work on getting things put back together.

24. Thought I read Nagin contributed to Bush campaign ..
not a fan? Maybe not but he's an opportunist ready to butter his bread with promises of political advancement if he rolls over on Blanco. He's a Republican period. He wanted to be mayor and knew they'd never elect a Repuke in NO so he switched. Kinda like once a cheater always a ... and a leopard doesn't change it's spots ... I'm sure there are more but you get my drift.

28. So a politician should change parties as often
as voters change who they vote for? There are many independents with no party affiliations who vote for the person and not ideology. There are candidates that just don't attract all the votes from those registered in their party.

I wouldn't trust that a candidate who switched parties just before throwing his hat in the ring really represents the ideals of my party. To me there's a major difference between Dems and Repukes. So it's sorta like a self-declared atheist declaring Jesus Saved Me ... is it possible? Maybe. But not likely.

30. No, a politician who realizes that his views do not align with the
Republican party anymore (since it has changed drastically) has every right to choose the party that does define him. I was a Republican until soon after the 2000 election, when I found out that they are lying, cheating bastards.

Have you heard what Nagin has said about this administration?

He apologized for his harsh words he said about him on the radio. Then Bush allowed him to take a shower on Air Farce One . This is from his own lips from last weeks 60 Minutes. This morning on Meet the Press he refrained from criticizing Bush but not governor Blanco.

35. He's calmed down since the WWL interview. But what people say
when they're angry/upset says a lot about their true nature.

Nagin also admitted his mistakes in this event, which is completely anti-Republican (the mistake of relying on federal help when it wasn't coming).

37. Nagin gave money to the Bush campaign and endorsed the Repuke Jindal
Over Blanco in the Governor's race.

He's a lifelong Republican, he only switched at the last minute to Democratic to get elected Mayor...now ALL of the black folks have been removed and scattered across the country, Nagin can go back to where he always belonged the Repuke Party, because the white folks that are left in NOLA know he's a Corporatist and so they'll vote for him.

He's been meeting in Dallas with the whites who want to take over NOLA and keep the blacks from returning, he met them Wednesday or Thursday...and funny he managed to buy a house in Dallas too...or did Jimmy Reiss and Ashton O'Dwyer buy that house in Dallas for him?

There's an article around these boards about the Dallas meeting somewhere...the article appeared in the WSJ last week.

13. Here is an interesting tibit UTUSN posted
Well, This's for Them: NAGIN Was/Is a Repuke Who Ran Dem
**************QUOTE*********

Before his election, Nagin was a member of the Republican Party and had little political experience; he was a vice president and general manager at Cox Communications, a cable communications company and subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. Nagin did give contributions periodically to candidates, namely President George W. Bush and former Republican U.S. Representative Billy Tauzin in 1999 and 2000, as well as to Democratic U.S. Senators John Breaux and J. Bennett Johnston earlier in the decade.

Days before filing for the New Orleans Mayoral race in February 2002, Nagin switched his party registration to the Democratic Party. Shortly before the primary election, an endorsement praising Nagin as a reformer by Gambit Magazine gave him crucial momentum that would carry through for the primary election and runoff. In the first round of the crowded mayoral election in February 2002, Nagin received first place with 29% of the vote, against such opponents as Police Chief Richard Pennington, State Senator Paulette Irons, City Councilman Troy Carter and others. In the runoff with Pennington in May 2002, Nagin won with 59% of the vote. His campaign was largely self-financed.

Shortly after taking office, Nagin launched an anti-corruption campaign within city government, which included crackdowns on the city's Taxicab Bureau and Utilities Department. Nagin also made a controversial endorsement of current Republican U.S. Representative Bobby Jindal in the 2003 Louisiana Gubernatorial Runoff over current Democratic Governor Kathleen Blanco, and only reluctantly endorsed U.S. Senator John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential race.

Nagin received a B.S. degree in accounting from Tuskegee University in 1978 and an M.B.A. degree from Tulane University in 1994. He and his wife, Seletha Smith Nagin, have three children: Jeremy, Jarin, and Tianna.
