Scarborough BLASTED B*sh, FEMA on NBC's Today show this morning
Yes, shocking. There must be a link to this somewhere.

I can't remember verbatim, but he BLASTED the incompetence of FEMA director Brown, saying there was no need for a Giuiliani 'Hurricane-Czar' because "that's what Brown is supposed to be'. His tirade included the fact that boots were on the ground (National Guard) in Florida within 24 hours last year when the 4 hurricanes hit and that "probably had to do with Jeb Bush being the governor of Florida" -he pointed out that the speedy Florida Federal response happened under Brown's tenure. He said that inaction of the gov't for the first 3 or 4 days, including President Bush was inexcusable.

Again, not verbatim, but this is what I remember. Anybody see it?

1. No, but I've seen others that surprised me
Like Congress last night, anyone see that? It wasn't the news, but the reality check was shocking in the same way. Ron Paul went ALL the way into lack of facts about Iraq, and New Orleans. The speaker before him, wonderful women Democrat from Georgia, she was AWESOME!!! She said it all, and said so well, it was moving.

It was the most heartening thing I've seen in literally years. ON tv. Wow.

But I agree, it's still something of a shock to hear real news talk on the news again, and logically sound opinions, instead of rhetoric. It's so wonderful, I'm afraid to even talk about it too much, jinx it somehow.

For me, the only question is, how can we further support this new trend?? Have to let the news folks know that they HAVE our support, our viewers, our time, our commercialized presence, when they do this. To let them know the American people are screaming a resounding YES!!!!!!!!!!!

2. He might have also mentioned
That his "home area" of Pensacola and the rest of the redneck riveria is not repaired after over a year, and has already been hit again this year.

And that is WITH Jebbie running around with his ice bag in his hand trying to shore up his legacy.

5. We may very well start seeing that

Once the GOP realize the Bush ship won't float anymore (hey that sounds kinda funny!) they may start jumping quickly and help to rid us of this long national nightmare.

This is big IMO. Scarborough is one of the most worthless kool-aid drinkers on tv. Once you see Monica Crowley turn against Bush though... start buying the champagne.

11. Maybe he wants to be a journalist, not a politician? Katrina seems to
be bringing out the journalist in lots of TV journalists, Brian Williams, Tim Russert, Ted Koppel. Why not Joe Scarborough?

the delayed response of FEMA and President Bush resulted in loss of many lives!!!!!!!!!!

So, he layed a charge of manslaughter on B*shco.

6. Yes, Brown IS the disaster czar! But they can't admit his incompetence
and replace him, so they want to put someone over him to do the job.

12. Yes I am pretty surprised
Just expecting him to at any moment turn 180 degrees back where he was before.

What does he get out of this. Is he running for office and finds this a good strategy?

18. He's thinking about running for office again.
Heard him a week or two ago talking about it (with Tucker Carlson, IIRC). He's positioning himself now in the event he decides to go for it.

13. DId you even listen to him.
HE was blaming FEMA because he was touting for LESS govt and less state. (Read Norquist if you dont get it).

The other point was that he was pushing Jeb as an efficient gov.

They are turning our argument AGAINST us: if govt is bad, let's have less govt.

But the next step - what he thinks we should do about it - is exactly the opposite of where most of us here on DU are.

Still, if the focus continues to be on the lack of experience of Chertoff, and even much more so, Brown, then the reason for the problem is unlikely to be seen by most of the public as "big government" but as "crony politics," no matter what Scarborough thinks. The resonant point will be the incompetence of the Bush appointees. At least, I hope it will. And if so, the solution is to block Bush and his agenda.

(Oh, I so hope that Americans will now begin to see what a failure Bush has been.)

15. yes I did- and I don't agree with your interpretation
He was saying that FEMA's inability to get on the scene immediately instead of "3 or 4 days later" (in reality, more) cost many lives. That is what he said.

And for his remark about Jeb, I thought that was a back-handed jab at B*sh's ineptitude saying that he COULD have expedited gov't response as he had in Florida, but his lack of kinship or disinterest in the leadership of LA led to a basically "I don't give a shit" reaction.

You are entitled to your interpretation of that interview without getting snippy. We are on the same side, after all.

That is what I heard- anyone else see it and have thoughts?

16. And Jeb Bush wasn't the only reason we got service so fast.
'Boots were on the ground' within 24 hours because it was an election year - 2 months before Florida (a swing state) went to the polls. Regardless of who the Govenor was, Florida would have gotten relief and fast.

19. He touted Jeb as someone who could handle a disaster
and Brown as someone who was incompetent. It make sense that Jeb, who runs a state that gets nailed far more often than Louisiana, would know how to deal with it far easier than the Gov of Louisiana.

He said that the previous head of FEMA could do his job properly too. It was Brown who was the problem.

17. I heard him last night saying pretty much the same, but adding
that the previous FEMA head was also good at handling disasters.

His premise seemed to be that Jeb had an infrustructure in place to deal with disasters, and places like Louisiana don't. That was the difference, he seemed to be saying. Florida's leadership did Brown's job for him. Louisiana did not, so we got to see just how incapable FEMA is under him.
