"RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF HENDRICKS COUNTY, INDIANA
Whereas people innumerable living along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama suffered a great calamity of unnecessary injury, illness, disease, neglect and death in the late summer of 2005, and
Whereas the Government of the United States willfully and deliberately neglected and underfunded expenditures for years to reinforce levees, develop coastal wetlands and improve pumps and drains at the City of New Orleans, and
Whereas the national weather service provided the Government of the United States a week's early warning of a catastrophic hurricane's approach, and
Whereas the leadership of the Government of the United States was distracted from the impending disaster by summer vacation, convention attendance and a callous disregard and indifference to the plight of the poor, impaired, elderly, infirm and underprivileged, and
Whereas the vast resources of the United States sat neglected and grossly underutilized in the hours and days immediately after the disaster, and
Whereas the Mayor of New Orleans and other local Gulf Coast leaders had to implore and beseech the Government of the United States before said Government would properly attend to the consequences of the disaster and render needy persons requisite assistance,
It is resolved that the State of Indiana's members of the United States Congress seek the immediate establishment of an independent commission to investigate the facts, circumstances, causes and conditions underlying the United States Government's inept and untimely response of to the 2005 Hurricane Katrina Disaster."
