Will George Jr.'s approval rating climb as a result of the tragedy in NO?
So far in his administration, it's been a steady fall with sharp rises only for tragedies (and Saddam).

My wife was watching the MSM this morning and she was struck by the notion that George Jr. would be able to play this to his advantage.

I don't know, though, I think he's passed the point where a tragedy gives him any extra points.

Now had he been a real leader and gone to the SuperDome to wait out the storm with the people stuck in there, then maybe...

Sorry to have to look at politics here, but these guys are so slimy they'll try anything.

1. I don't think so.
Gas prices are going up to $4 and $5 a gallon (and more, in some places).

People tend to blame the president for that.

2. No. The guitar playing pic and the licking the frosting off his finger pic
are damning. People may spin and deny to save face, but those two pics are absolute irrefutable proof of what an asshole the guy is. What an arrogant, thoughtless, uncaring, incompetent asshole he really is.

The New York Times to the Manchester Union Leader to my little hometown paper.... so it's hard to see how he's going to gain popularity from this. See:

5. I doubt it. He's fallen and he can't get up. Two women brought him down,

2 women who are proxies for something bigger:

1) Cindy Sheehan - symbol of the majority of American mothers who are against the war in Iraq
and
2) Katrina - symbol of Mother Nature in her wrath.

Don't screw around with Mother. It's not nice.

6. i'm thinking maybe not
I'm trying not to underestimate the spin...may still be worked to his advantage, but it isn't looking good for *

Had it been a terror attack, he would have spun it, no question. This, don't think so. And his hands-off, not-giving-a-$#!^ attitude will just help drive his numbers lower, I think.

11. I agree
He could spin a terror attack, a natural disaster with days of warning is not a surprise attack

7. No, but he's playing it to regain numbers approval - lets see how
he handles a real crisis, we have seen how he dealt with 9-11 bombers.

9. There's a new Gallup with his approval at 45% (up from 40%),
I think there will be a temporary bump, but it will be back down to previous levels, or lower, as people see what a shitty job he's doing.

10. It'll plummet to the single digits very rapidly...

New Orleans and Gas prices are going to go hand and hand. And the people of the United States will demand impeachment. And the Republicans, fearing for the wrath of the angry Americans, will hurriedly dump everything and begin impeachment proceedings for the entire maladministration and then immediately resign their seats so the Democratic Party can regain the majority.
