There's a run on gas in Asheville, NC : CIRCULATE & comment
There's a run on gasoline in Asheville, NC and I bet this is not isolated. Here's out quickening moment. Bush, the Oil Man, is completely vulnerable and perhaps this is his narcissitic moment when he goes down.

I just put up 2 huge fluorescent green signs:

OUT OF GAS? KEEP VOTING FOR THOSE REPUBLICANS

...and yelled it out to anyone who would listen as the desperation increased at the gas pumps.

1. from another DU'er re: price gouging:

No mention in his speach about price gouging at the pumps. Just justification for that gouging. We know capacity has been affected. But that doesn't explain why stations are raising prices FAR more than oil has gone up BEFORE they even received their next delivery of gasoline!

But, Bush doesn't care about the American people. Consequently, he's blase about gouging at the pumps.

If anyone is angry about gas prices, the explanation for your pain is sitting in the White House.

And we won't hear a peep from those incompetents in Washington about the economic effects of this disaster (and their inaction in it's aftermath contributing to economic collapse, including failure to control gouging). We'll head into an economic depression, and Bush will sit in the White House saying 'well, what do you want ME to do? Market forces control that.' Then he'll cut public assistance even more, and spend millions opening poor camps for the homeless after he signs legislation giving banks and apartments tax breaks for their losses from foreclosures and people not able to pay the rent. And he'll scream at Congress to pass a repeal of the inheritance tax NOW to improve the economy.

Watching this country unravel makes me feel physically ill.

2. from another DUer: BRING THE NATIONAL GUARD HOME IMMEDIATELY
National Guard troops don't belong in Iraq. They should be rescuing and protecting in Louisiana and Mississippi, not patrolling and killing in a country that was invaded on the basis of presidential deception. They should be fighting the effects of flood waters at home - helping people in the communities they know best - not battling Iraqi people who want them to go away.

Let's use the Internet today to forward and post this demand so widely that the politicians in Washington can no longer ignore it:

Bring the National Guard home. Immediately.

3. Run on Gas in Atlanta, GA
Cars are lining up and waiting in line for hours to fill up on $3.50+ gallons of gas here in metro Atlanta. I tried to go down to my local gas station and the street was backed up for blocks. There were 3 police cars in the turn lane with the officers standing next to them directing traffic into the 2 gas stations on the block - both with cars streaming out from all sides.

Damn - this is a time when I wish I had a camera phone.

The Governor has requested citizens to cancel their Labor Day travel plans.

5. In Delray Beach FL
Our local Hess station is our of everything except Premium. Of course, everyone filled up before Katrina came here, so it may be tight for a while.

6. out of gas in FL
running out of gas in South FL....
On my way home from work 3 of the 4 gas stations were closed, lines are blocks long.

I think the oil co's are playing games and using the storm as an excuse to rob us blind.
