Just called Hagel's office. Told him that the funding for george's war
in Iraq needs to be stopped. We need that money. We need it here. We need it NOW.

Haven't had any sleep. Must be losing my mind. This has obsessed me for hours. We cannot go on this way paying for a war that we lost the day it started. We cannot go on this way watching this administration bleed the middle and lower classes dry while those who have the most reap all the benefits of life in this country. Most of all, we cannot afford to be sending our men and women overseas to a war and expect them to fight defenseless, without adequate equipment and armour to at least give them some protection as the bullets and the bombs explode around them.

We need the billions that are unaccounted for now, to put the lives of hurricane victims back together. We need to help all those who are living in poverty. Contrary to what people may think, the number of people who are living in poverty is climbing every minute. We need to tell this corrupt administration that we are tire of them stealing from us.

Geez, I wish I didn't have to hit the bus stop in an hour. I'm way too tired to face today.

1. I know what you mean.
Try to have a good day anyway. I am going to give $30.00 of what I earn today to the Red Cross for the hurricane victims. That is about all I can afford. But, since shrub won't be helping them, all of the good people in the U.S. will do what they can. Now take another dose of Pepto Bismol and go to work. That is what I am going to do. God bless.

2. do you really think we will hear about putting the lives of the hurricane
victims back together? Don't mean to be a cynic but after this initial hulabalu and the media frenzy, there will be little follow up.

3. oh my -- you are in a real state of concern
about things you have little control.

But then that's why you are here.

You need to take care of yourself -- do something nice for yourself.

Take off some time from holding up the whole world -- many of us understand how you feel.

Every time I hear how much money is flowing into the pockets of Halliburton etc I get angry, knowing that the infrastructure of the US is in bad shape in many places.

In May I drove over a bridge -- north of Kansas City --on one of the back roads (bypassing K.C.) and this bridge was in such bad shape that I was driving white knuckles -- and TRUCKS were using this bridge. I've never driven on a bridge that was so beaten up. And I thought of ALL the money being wasted on an unwinable war.

But I can't dwell on what I cannot change. We can vote -- we can write letters and support people who are trying to make a healthy change in this world.

Please take care of yourself.

4. The historical model for this war is the Soviet Union in Afganistan
A guerilla war in a 3rd world country drained the military and economic power of a superpower exposing the weaknesses inherent in its system. Does anyone else think this will happen here or is happening already?

8. Other than the most shallow comparisson of the case studies
There is no comparisson.

We have toppled the regime and are "successfully" occupying the country.

The terrain of Afghanistan screwed the USSR.

There is no comparisson between this war of stagnent progress and the USSR defeat in Afghanistant; they never did see much progress.

9. Truth be told, neither have we. The warlords are in control. Poppy
production is going up, up, up. And Karzai can't take a walk around the block in Kabul without a batallion of body guards. Women still have no rights, and the Taliban is making a comeback.

We might have toppled the 'regime', but not certain if it's permanent or not. We sure as hell don't have control of the country. And we're not the only occupier, there are a lot of other countries with forces in there as well.

Progress? I don't know. Depends on your definition of the word.

5. Hell,did you hear that Iraqi's will have Nationalized Health Care?
http://costofwar.com/

Nearly 200 BILLION of US taxpayer $$ into that hellhole with no end in sight and Iraqi's will end up with NHC according to ABC News yesterday.

Meanwhile more and more Americans go without ANY health care as this Nazi regime marches on. This is beyond outrageous.....

6. No, I didn't hear that one. And that is disgusting beyond words. I don't
mean that the Iraqis don't deserve health care. But I am outraged that we (and I do mean you and I) are going to pay for something that millions of us, and I am one, can't have.

Hagel's office is getting another call when I get home.

7. You need to take a break
Seriously. Sometimes when I hang out here too long, I start freaking out. I also listen to America Left on XM radio. And I watch CNN and other MSM media outlets (when time allows) searching for instances where they are using right wing spin.

And after awhile of that, I start to get so overwhelmed and depressed. So I have to let it go and listen to music or watch something mindless or read something other than the paper for a few days and allow myself to remember that there have been bad times in this country before. I am sure a lot of people felt the same way we occasionally do back in the late 60's and early 70's and things found a way to work out. Life and politics run in cycles. This is just a really shitty cycle.

10. I think so too
I think that's the only way. Perhaps that's why Kerry voted against that one vote he did. It was the only other way to stop the war. No funding no war.
