Poll question: 2008 GOP nominee (if we win in 2004)
Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 12:51 AM by ih8thegop
This assumes Jeb doesn't run (or loses his bid for the nomination for having the same surnames as, and being related to, two one-term presidents).

This also assumes Cheney doesn't run due to health reasons.

SO... besides Jeb and Cheney, whom do you think the Republicans would choose to run against the Democratic 44th President in 2008? (regardless of whom that President is)

The positions I have listed are as of December 23, 2003. By 2008, odds are, besides Quayle and Alexander, none of these people will be in these offices.

1. Strategically speaking, if they run anyone but Giuliani...
...they are dain bramaged.

Wait a second... they are dain bramaged.

Giuliani probably will not make it through their neo-con base in the primaries.

2. Other
Keep your eye on Colorado Gov. Bill Owens (R). I think he'll definitely run in 2008.

9. They are grooming the heck out of Frist!
I have no doubt in my mind that Frist will be the Nom in 2008. Since day one in the Senate he has made sure he's had his head up all the right people's asses.

Makes me sick I live in the state that put him there.

10. Powell will be VP if not President
Don't kid yourselves - Powell is a very popular Republican in the south. Democrats still haven't figured out what kind of game the Republicans are playing.

11. Likely Frist
Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 01:54 AM by mot78
he'll be Bob Dole with empathy and love, and then he'll get his ass kicked by President Clark. A DeLay candidacy would drive the Repugs off a cliff and give them Goldwater II, but if * loses next year, DeLay will throw out Hastert and become Speaker. :scared:

12. bill frist , and frist might be vp for 2004
i would say bill frist. and he is someone democrats should be worried about. he doesn't come across as most republican men do in the stiff, bitter, angry manner. frist comes across as a nice guy, like a nice uncle to me. but his agenda is mostly right wing. and unlike bush he is not stupid and in fact very smart. but one thing that might stop him is his support for stem cell research. the religious right might oppose him based on that.

14. tom ridge is pro choice
that is unacceptable for the religious right which is strong in the gop.they would not allow it. it's also one reason bush didn't pick him for vp, including the fact that ridge is taller.
