How to File a Complaint with FCC over Pat Robertson
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 08:35 PM by IndianaGreen
I don't know if this information has been posted already, but here is what I received in an e-mail alert:

How to File a Complaint with FCC over Robertson's Call for
Assassination

According to today’s telephone conversation (888) 225-5322 with the
FCC, this threat needs to be reported in writing to the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) with the following details of when,
where and
offense and sent into the FCC’s Broadcast Complaint Office via Fax, Email
and/or U.S. Mail.

FCC Broadcast Complaint Office
445 12th Street S.W.
Washington, DC 20554
Fax: (866) 418-0232
Email: fccinfo@fcc.gov

________

Pat Robertson calls for Assassination of Foreign Leader

When: Monday, August 22, 2005 at 6:30 PM and 11:00 PM EST

Where: Christian Broadcast Network “The 700 Club” broadcast nationally

Offense: Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on American
national television that American agents assassinate Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez, a Head of State of a Foreign Country. The quote taken from
the national broadcast of “The 700 Club” on the Christian Broadcasting
Network on Monday night, August 22, 2005. Robertson is quoted as saying
“We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come
that we exercise that ability” and he went on to say “We don’t need
another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator”
and he then continued with “It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the
covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

2. Do you have to break a law to be reported to the FCC?
I don't know... just asking.

3. You're welcome to share your concerns with anyone, but
for the FCC to take action, there has to be a law possibly broken.

4. Inciting violence and murder over the public airwaves
Robertson may have also violated the PATRIOT Act by advocating acts of terrorism.

File a complaint and let the FCC legal beagles worry about it!

5. terroristic threat
High school kids get arrested for threatening school mates everyday. Robertson made a threat, should be the same thing.

6. I heard someone talking about this on the news
I heard someone talking about this on a news program a few days ago (I forget which program it was). Anyway, they said since he said it on cable and Robertson owns the network, the FCC has no jurisdiction over him.

I would certainly like to see some kind of action taken against Robertson, I'm just not sure if the FCC would be able to do anything about it. Still, it's a good idea........

8. Robertson sold the network to a media giant
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 09:24 PM by IndianaGreen
the caveat on the sale was that the new owners had to keep the 700 Club on the air.

REPEAT: Pat Robertson no longer owns The Family Channel, previously known as Christian Broadcasting Corporation!

9. Reminder, Pat Robertson doesn't own the TV network anymore!
When Robertson sold CBN to the owners of what became The Family Channel, there was a provision in the sales contract that the purchasers had to allow The 700 Hundred Club to remain airing in perpetuity.

Some DUers had said that we couldn't file a complaint with FCC because Robertson owned the TV channel. This is not true! In addition, TV broadcasters can lose their license if they permit their broadcasts to be used for naughty things, such as advocate the assassination of a democratically elected leader of the third largest producer of oil in the world.
