In Iowa, some voters give Kerry a second look
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/7551825.htm

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Sen. John Kerry's long-stumbling presidential campaign is starting to hit its stride in Iowa, where Democrats vote first in less than a month.

Kerry is fine-tuned these days. His stump speech is tighter, the fight lines more frequent. He taunts President Bush, bellowing "Bring it on!" And while he once may have felt somehow entitled to support from voters, he now beseeches them for help.

Even as former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean remains the front-runner among the nine candidates seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, Kerry is newly aggressive - he winds up a sleepless 24-hour state tour Tuesday - and he appears to be catching on in Iowa, where Democrats vote Jan. 19.

Some Democrats are giving Kerry a second look, polls and interviews suggest. Others, only now becoming engaged in presidential politics, say they are attracted to his foreign policy message, his environmental record and, yes, his emergence as an anti-Dean candidate.

6. The primary season is just starting
The race is wide open, none of the candidates has solid support.

In January, people will start paying attention.

If Kerry upsets in Iowa, it will be an earthquake for the field.
