20. I'm not sure these were Dibold. Caller on Malloy said optical scan.
I know not all precints are the same, but that caller was from Clermont. Besides, if they were Dibold, they couldn't do a recount!

Unless, of course, they have a lot of people who can read digital bits on a disk!!!!! Maybe real good glasses, huh?

So do ES&S and Sequoia, in addition to touch screens.

59. Diebold makes optical scans, and remember...
A paper ballot only does us any good if it is double checked to make sure the machine is counting correctly. A manual count of some of the ballots is always a good idea, as hand counts have been shown to be the most accurate.

She gained a couple of percentage points, and about....oh....looks like about 3,000 votes ON Hackett, where the previous margin had been about 1800 (for a total of around 4,800, at the end). Gaining that in less than half of the precincts.

Edited for math screw-up.

Fifteen polling places at Cleveland Municipal Schools were changed after the schools were “permanently or temporarily” closed this spring. The new polling locations were posted at the old precincts, but the change made for some frustrated voters. A Board of Elections spokeswoman says voter information postcards with new polling locations were mailed to affected voters last month.

If rumors are true, we're looking at hand counts. We like hand counts, hand counts are good. HOWEVER, we all need to know that there is someone in there we can trust.

36. Sorry, But You're Living In Fantasyland
Recounts are useless, and they're even more useless since they'll be taking place in Ohio. The last recount in Ohio this past December was a real doozy.

We're losers. At least this time we came close, but we're still losers, and may very well remain that way while the repubs are in total control of everything, and have the power to do Whatever they feel like.

Even coming close is still a win to them. Just ask bolton whether it matters how he got in....point is Shrub won, Dems lost.

162. Citizen Election Audit
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 12:11 AM by adolfo
Anyone can have access to the ballots under Ohio Public Records Laws. All you have to do is ask to see them. However, there is a limited amount of time before the records are destroyed.

It is a very simple process. Even though the results from an independent audit are not official at least it can help prove fraud.

They really got trounced tonight, even if they "win" the race
(heavy republican district turned 50/50 white knuckle ride).

Added bonus -

There will be a recount. They will then have to justify THE EQUIPMENT that WE may be able to prove is not adequate for an accurate recount.
Think of that bonus opportunity.

What do you think the chances of getting a recount with J. Kenneth Blackwell as Sec. of State?

While I understand that Clermont is red, it is just fishy that the "delayed by 1 hr" results happen to match so closely...

68. A Clermont County blast from the past moment
From kos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/2/222650/4208#140

Why were there stickers on ballots in Clermont County, Ohio?'

Serious new election tampering allegations have emerged from an Ohio county, where witnesses allege that stickers were placed on presidential election ballots, RAW STORY has learned.

Several volunteer workers in the Ohio recount in Clermont County, Ohio have prepared affidavits alleging serious tampering, violations of state and federal law and possible fraud. They name the Republican chief of Clermont's Board of Elections Daniel Bare and the head of the Clermont Democratic Party Priscilla O'Donnell as complicit in these acts.

These volunteers, observing the recount on behalf of the Greens, Libertarians and Democrats, assert that during the Dec. 14, 2004 hand recount they noticed stickers covering the Kerry/Edwards oval, whereas the Bush/Cheney oval seemed to be "colored in."

Some witnesses state that beneath the stickers, the Kerry/Edwards oval was selected. The opti-scan ballots were then fed into the machines after the hand recount.

Allegations of ballot tampering in Ohio - which decided the outcome of the presidential election by some 100,000 votes - find particular resonance in Clermont, one of three Ohio counties which saw the biggest increases in votes for Bush from 2000 to 2004. The other counties were Butler and Warren; Warren County had a lockdown after an alleged terror threat that the FBI later denied.

Are we seriously going to start this crap again? It was was an extremely red area. I think Mr. Hackett was well aware of his chances and this was really quite a shock that he did this good... it would of been a blow out of it wasn't for of us who helped and donated money.

Let's be honest... Jean's platform was "I love Bush the most".

Yes, we are seriously going to start "that crap" again.

You want to know why? Here's why. The *home* county of the candidate who is at that moment losing ground suddenly experiences "voting irregularities," it's reporting website goes offline, and some idiot claims that "humidity" is the problem.

Yes, I think we will start questioning "that crap" once again.

Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 10:28 PM by meganmonkey
Have you read the posts and links about it? First a humidity problem and a potential handcount, then the final numbers pop up with a HUGE change in votes...

------

With 88 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Jean Schmidt had 49,681 votes, compared with 48,811 for Democrat Paul Hackett -- a margin of under 1,000 votes.

We now know why it's taking so long for all the votes to be counted in a special election for an Ohio congressional seat.

The Board of Elections in Clermont County, east of Cincinnati, says it's optical scanners haven't counted all the ballots yet because it was so hot -- and humid -- Tuesday.

Board member Tim Rudd says the ballots pick up moisture when it gets hot, making it tougher for the optical scan machines to sort and count.

The race in the Second District is neck-and-neck tonight. Republican Jean Schmidt leads Democrat Paul Hackett by fewer than one-thousand votes with 88 percent of precincts reporting.

123. Read this analysis from kos

From my blog about the last 91 (4.00 / 2)

Pre-Final Vote Tally:
Schmidt (R) - 49,681 (50%)
Hackett (D) - 48,811 (50%)

88% Reporting

Final Vote Tally:
Schmidt (R) - 59,132 (52%)
Hackett (D) - 55155 (48%)

Now, I am hardly someone who screams fraud, but look at this....out if 91 precincts...about 12% of the total, the margin went from 0.89% to 3.49%...in other words it almost quadrupled.

What were the results from those last 91 pricincts:
Schmidt (R) - 9,451 (60%)
Hackett (D) - 6,344 (40%)

Another thing you'll notice. If you were on here earlier, I was projecting that, extrapolating from the first 100 pricincts, that the last 91 would have about 10,000 votes. In fact, the final tally has them giving out 50% more than that...over 15,000 votes.

Also, while Schmidt's margin in the first 100 was about 56% to 44%, the margin is much, much wider in the last 91...60% to 40%.

Also, this puts the overall total well out of range of any recount margin.

"Also, this puts the overall total well out of range of any recount margin."

50% of one county surges that much in the final hours? C'mon!

Who did the hand counts? Those need to be locked down. NOW!

Not only would they want to put it at a winning but not obvious percentage, but it absolutely had to be over automatic recount range because then it's all called into question.

129. I'm having difficulty following this.
Has a winner been announced, yet? Did I miss anything? Does anyone find it unusual that the former offensive coordinator of the New York Jets is running for Congress in Ohio(I couldn't resist, it's way too obvious and besides Jets fans here wouldn't be rooting for him anyway;-) )?
I noticing alot of 'if the repubs win, then they stole the election' vibe going on. This can only lead to bad things. Not to mention that what goes around, comes around. So don't have a fucking hissy fit when a Dems is accused of rigging an election either. Uh, just saying :argh:.

139. Nothing is unbelievable.
Calling politicians corrupt is like saying the sun rises in the east or that Stuart Scott is a shitty anchor. It's a known fact. Still though, I really hate when people bitch and moan 'cause their guy didn't win. So you're favorite candidate lost, you'll have to live with it. Next time, find out what went wrong and how to fix it. And if you have to play dirty to do it, then so be it. Politics ain't a racket for saints. Never has and it never will. if you're not willing to play dirty, then you shouldn't be in it.

165. Of course you don't.
No right minded, normal person should accept corruption in politics. The fact is, though, that it exists on both sides. I think that the Dems have done a better job of hiding it. I guess you could say that sometimes you have to play a little dirty. I'm not saying being corrupt, I'm just saying that if you have any incriminating photos of your opponent, then use them to the fullest.

We shouldn't give up on this one. The ballots can be easily counted by any party under public records law.

We need to organize and double check the results for accuracy. There are only 29,818 ballots and it can be done one precinct at a time.

I think Clermont County results should be double checked. Is it normal to change the listing order of candidates?

Paul Hackett was listed first until the results started coming in. Here is a copy:

They just flipped the totals, or flipped the names. Either way... the winner appears to be the loser, and the loser appears to be the winner.....

BY THE SAME MARGIN as if the loser won by the same amount.

Same shit. Different election. It's REALLY easy with computers!! We've all done a "cut & paste"!

Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 12:06 PM by gasperc
It is interesting to note how much the spread grew in the last 91 precincts. Would be interesting to find out how exactly the hand re-count was done.

Schmidt won by 3977 votes. Less than 500 vote margin would be needed to trigger an automatic recount. tampering here doesn't look like it was necessary but has any one else looked as close to the other counties

Clermont county

9:30pm 100 of 191 precincts
7869/13968 56.3% S
6099/13968 43.7% H 1770 vote difference

final 191/191 precincts
29759 58.2% S 4881 vote difference

41.8% H

158. What is needed to prove fraud .....
Ok so the voting scanners broke down due to humidity and the last half of the vote counting was done by hand.

The only way to expose this type of fraud is to check the sign in book, tally the total signed in and compare to the final numbers reported, then match that number to the optically scanned ballots before they are destroyed. It is time consuming, but track down every person who signed in to vote and find out if they actually voted. Finally, do the same with the absentee ballots, and provisional ballots.

In this case the logistics have been made easier, because you can first concentrate on the non-reporting districts at the time the "humidity" made its appearance. Demand that all ballots hand counted be perserved.

It is likely that discrepancies will arise which defy explanation. It is always important to expose facts that cannot be explained, and leave that ball in the court of the Board of Elections to grapple with. A difference of 4-5,000 votes is not much, when you consider that only 2,000 to 2500 votes have to be flipped from one candidate to the other to reach this result.

164. How con-veeeeeeen-ient!
"Board member Tim Rudd says the ballots pick up moisture when it gets hot, making it tougher for the optical scan machines to sort and count. "

We've been here before, folks.

The MAIN ARGUMENT IS.....

If a little "moisture" can make it hard for the optical scan machines, then we DON'T FUCKING NEED OPTICAL SCAN MACHINES!!! If our elections depend on "computers" to do the right thing, and the "computers" are so frikkin' "sensitive" that they might "shut down", then get the bastards OUTTA THERE!!!

Let REAL people count the votes, marked with pen and paper, and LET THE PUBLIC VIEW THE COUNTING!!!!!!

It's NOT rocket science!!!
