Kerry cranks up call to fire Rove (great WH quotes to use)....and petition
Dear XXXXXXXXX,

Less than two weeks ago, you signed a petition joining members of the johnkerry.com community in calling for Karl Rove to be fired for his deliberate attempt to, once again, use the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks to divide America. Now Karl Rove is embroiled in another controversy concerning the leaked identity of a covert CIA agent, which Bush Administration senior officials said was done to punish her husband, a man who had the courage to tell the truth about manipulated intelligence in Iraq.

Karl Rove is the President's top advisor in the White House and what he has admitted doing has deep and troubling consequences for our national security.

Just today the President spoke at Quantico praising our soldiers and the employees of the FBI, CIA, and DEA for their work rooting out terrorism.

He told them, "Your work is difficult. It is dangerous. I want you to know how much your country appreciates you, and so do I."

But at the same time the President was saying these words, it was becoming clear that his top advisor was involved in exposing a CIA agent in the name of politics by telling reporters about her work - making her already dangerous job that much more dangerous.

In order to do what the President called on us to do today - "continue to take the fight to the enemy" - the White House and Karl Rove must stop taking it to their so-called political enemies here at home.

It's perfectly clear that Rove - the person at the center of the slash and burn, smear and divide tactics that have come to characterize the Bush Administration - has to go.

The problem is that, instead of protecting the American people from real threats to our security, this Administration spends its time protecting Karl Rove. That's not leadership.

They're doing their best to brush off this new Rove controversy as just another political story, but this time they are having a harder time getting away with it. That's why, if we raise our voices now, we can really make a difference. Please ask all your friends to sign our "Fire Rove" petition today:

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rove.php

Despite carefully worded denials, it is now apparent that Karl Rove discussed the identity of an undercover CIA agent with a reporter. His clear aim was to discredit that agent's husband who had dared to challenge the Administration in the buildup to the war.

There appears to be no limit to the lengths to which Rove - and this Administration - will go. But, there is a limit to the patience of the American people - and we have reached it. President Bush has a choice to make: Spend the months ahead focused on protecting Karl Rove's job security or spend them focused on protecting America's national security.

We are asking the President and the White House to do what they promised. When the scandal first broke, here's what the President's spokesman, Scott McClellan, said:

"If anyone in this Administration was involved in it, they would no longer be in this Administration." (9/29/03, White House press briefing). Now we will find out if the Administration is good to its word. Call on President Bush to keep his word and fire Rove now:

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rove.php

It's as simple as this: We need President Bush and his White House staff to focus on finally taking action necessary to avoid a quagmire in Iraq. The American people can't afford to wait while the White House spends its time and energy defending a top presidential aide's dangerous political shenanigans.

What the President does in the days ahead will speak volumes. He'll either make good on his promise to hold accountable those who shared the identity of a secret soldier in the war on terror - or he'll prove that promise hollow.

We now know that Karl Rove "was involved" in a breach of national security. Decency - and the interests of the American people - demand an end to Karl Rove's days in the White House. It's time for you to demand it as well.

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rove.php

I urge you to take action right now.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

2. He needs to hit the TV debate & interview shows...
...and start drumming this thing up and framing it for the audio culture/echo chamber.

It's not wise to let the GOP media continue to frame this- DEMs with media access need to hit the tube, TODAY.

He and the other "star" DEMs with media access failed to do this concerning the DSM, lets hope they do not make that mistake again.

And I'm sure CNN would "allow" him a one on one as well.

I've seen no evidence that cable or network news shows are banning him, Dean, Hillary, etc.

practices when it comes to Dems. They also fail to report on Kerry's work, his press releases, and even his past press conferences.

You say you've seen no evidence...what about when he released the DSM letter? Did they even bother to report it? What about when he held a full press conference for his universal healthcare for children bill - Did they even report on it?

They also LIKELY covered this because of Clinton's involvement. They will bend over backward to use her as the Dem spokesperson EVERY time they can.

10. I'll believe it when Kerry, Dean & Hillary say that themselves.
If CNN etc is truly being biased in there bookings, then these DEMs need to start talking about that on Air America, The Daily Show, mass e-mails, the DNC website, or on local news shows or newspaper op-eds.

I've heard DUers say that CNN etc avoids booking Dean, Kerry, Hillary, etc- I'll believe it when I see the victims of this alleged practice make the charge.

I think its just handy excuse for when they dont want to stick their necks out.

The positive is that Kerry is on this- more power to him.

11. And yet even when Kerry does stick his neck out, it goes unreported.
I guess Kerry was just naive to think just because he was the Dem presidential candidate he'd get coverage of his ******PRESS CONFERENCES*******

Now why would any Dem think their ******PRESS CONFERENCES****** deserve any coverage by the ******PRESS*******???????????????

13. I agree. That's why I said debate & interview shows.
The media can avoid "conferences" & "releases" when they need to- but they cant avoid a talking point that a "Star" DEM says to their face, in front of a camera or microphone in their studio.

If the DEM's more "controversial" statements are being edited like some DUers claim, then the DEMs need to put examples of this serious charge on their websites & mass emails or talk about it on Air America, Daily Show, Op-Eds etc.

Blaming the media is warranted, but it only gets us so far.

4. I hope more Dem senators decide it's safe to sign Kerry's DSM letter now.
The DSM needs a senate investigation. I believe the Plame case and DSM will intersect there.

12. Done. Don't let DSM die. Urge Senators to sign Kerry's letter today!
Now is not the time to let up our pressure. Hold their feet to the fire! Email your Senators, particularly those of you with Senators on the Intelligence Committee. The only Senator who has signed is Corzine.

We must not let the Downing Street Memos die now!

From Salon War Room re Kerry's letter: "Where Are the Other Democrats?"

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/print.html?blog=

Where are the other Democrats?

For those who have been itching for someone -- the national media, the White House, Congress, anybody -- to take the Downing Street memo seriously, the news today is mostly good: Even if the Republicans will never let it happen, John Kerry and nine other Senate Democrats have actually asked for an investigation that will include the revelations set forth in the Downing Street memo.

And yet -- where are the rest of the Senate Democrats? There are 44 Democrats in the Senate, and Kerry circulated a draft of his letter to the whole lot of them two weeks ago. In the end, he was able to persuade just nine of his colleagues to sign on: Jon Corzine, Tim Johnson, Frank Lautenberg, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, Tom Harkin, Jack Reed, Jeff Bingaman and Dick Durbin.

Where are you, Harry Reid? Any reason you didn't sign, Sen. Clinton? And while we wouldn't expect to see a signature from someone like Joe Lieberman on this letter, why don't we see your name there, Sen. Obama?

It would be one thing, we suppose, if Kerry's letter were outrageous somehow -- say, if it impugned the patriotism of millions of Americans or suggested their real "motives" were to put U.S. troops in mortal danger. But Kerry's letter isn't like that. It simply quotes passages from the Downing Street memo and highlights the "troubling questions" that they raise.

Is it that you don't think those questions are worth answers, Joe Biden? Or does the experience of Dick Durbin -- who did, after all, sign the Kerry letter -- have you too scared to raise them?
