"Republicans and Sexual Frustration" interesting article from TPMCafe
Here is a very interesting, funny, and sad article about the motivation behind being a Republican. Here is a link to the entire article:

Republicans and Sexual Frustration
By WinstonSmith

I'd like to touch on an issue so obvious and yet so unreported and unstudied by those of us seeking to understand the psychological makeup that drives the republican anger machine. It is my contention that republicans, at their core, find their root motivations in that most primal of driving forces in the human body: sexuality.

In their case, the repression of their sexuality.

Can you remember the sexual pain of being a virgin in high-school? I mean really remember it? Of course not. Sure you might recall the desperate longings, the emotional upheaval when your hormones were out of control and lacked release. But you only remember it intellectually. You no longer relate to it emotionally. You've moved on. You've grown up.

But it is precisely this primal sexual drive, never acted on, that drives the right wing rage machine. These are the people who never passed that point of sexual pain/longing, who never explored enough to understand it and release it. Sure they've likely had sex by now, but with very few partners, and doubtful very good ones at that. Most republicans entered into marriage very early in life, marrying due to outside pressures like family or community. Within a few years their marital sex-life has dwindled and as they enter parenthood and middle age, the realization that whatever good times they might've had in their youth, they've missed. That ship has sailed.

1. Reminds me
of what Frank Herbert had to say about sexual repression and militant thinking in his "God Emperor of Dune."

2. I'm a sexually-frustrated 21.5 year old virgin...
...and I'm as liberal as they come. (no pun intended)

But this is an interesting point. Maybe that's why they seek to oppress so many people's based on sexuality.

13. Married young, one partner for 25 years, a happy liberal
I also think it is an interesting theory and it may apply to some of the hypocritical GOP. Santorum, maybe? He was the first one that popped into my mind as I read the opening post.

My theory is that most of them aren't sexually repressed at all. They are just selfish to the core. They want it all, to have the appearance of impossibly high "moral" standards, standards set by the extreme right, as well as the freedom to act as they wish in private. In that way they are like spoiled children and need a good, long time out.

4. Sorry, I can't buy that.
I definitely agree that there are a lot of sexually repressed rightwingers, but I think that swims along with some broader issues.

Primarily, I think they're afraid of change in what they've been taught is "status-quo" -- under the big, stupid umbrella of "The Way Things Ought to Be" (which they're also deluded into believing is the way it always was before the Damn Libruls came along).

Under that "Way Things Ought to Be" umbrella are some truly screwed up ideas about sex. And gender.

In my view, they're not screwed up about social issues (and thus politics) because of sexual repression; they're screwed up about sexual repression because of their social issues (and thus politics).

And at the core of it all is fear.

6. I agree
They see people actually enjoying life and living it to the fullest, while they have to stay home to go to Bible study, choir practice, can't wear shorts/short skirts, must keep their hair cut short, can't dance, etc. And who do they see having the most fun of all, getting all dressed up wacky, having parades...Gay people. That explains why they think those people have to go to hell.

8. this about sums it up . . .
"The cornerstones of conservative ethos are sexual hysteria, meanness, and hypocrisy. It all fits together -- if they weren't so fucked up about sex, they wouldn't want to be so mean, and they wouldn't have to be so hypocritical." Rod Downey

9. This is one of the dumbest things ever posted here, BUT
a lot of what I see fueling the neo-con desire to vote for people like Bush IS tied in with repression of sexuality. Sexual identity that is. The ultimate way to deny your happy, inner gay man/woman? Vote Republican. Vote for the meanest, most assholish, anti-gay misogynist you can find. Be passionate about it. Donate half your income to that person. People will be a lot less likely to suspect you of being, ya know, exactly like the person your presidential candidate is persecuting. Or so you hope.

11. It's a fun theory...
... but I don't put much stock in it. Why? Because IMHO Repugs are good at talking about "morality" but they live by a "do as I say not as I do code".

Too many times they are caught doing naughty, naughty things. Now it might be that the "leaders" and more visible members of the party are the ones getting their freak on and the rank and file stay home and feel guilty about rubbing one out, who knows.
