Is Gonzales really pro-choice?
I'm not certain Bush hasn't appointed a single pro-choice judge yet. In the past, Gonzales sided with abortion rights, but it may be because he was simply upholding state law. While a 'strict constructionist' is better than an anti-abortion activist who feels it is their purpose to save the unborn, it seems such a person would send the issue of abortion back to the states.

Perhaps the Republicans are looking to compromise, but I'm starting to doubt it. If Bush is pushing Gonzales, his close friend, might he have something to gain from it?

I'm concerned we are about to get suckerpunched.

4. Don't really care since he is pro-torture and other illegal acts.
That precludes any other discussion when considering him in my book.

And, BTW, he could be kind to dogs, too, and be very neat.

9. I agree wholeheartedly . . .
anyone who authors justifications of torture -- for whatever reason or rationale -- has no place on the Supreme Court of the United States . . . not now, not ever . . . I don't care what Harry Reid says . . .

5. You're biting the bait!
Gonzales has been put out there to divert attention! Shrub isn't planning to nominate him! This was done to create a diversion, cause a lot of skirmishes and then just go away.

I bet ya Shrub will nominate someone none of us ever heard of! Yet another diversion, but it will cause EVERYBODY to scurry around huntung for informaation of THIS name!

JUst sit back and wait. Let's see what Shrub's move is before we go balistic.

6. No. As I understand it
while on the Texas Supreme Court he wrote one opinion in which he grudgingly said he had to support the federal ruling on abortion. I don't know of anything else he's said on the subject, but I'm sure Bush wouldn't nominate anyone who was pro-choice. Gonzales will vote the way Bush wants him to when the time comes.

There are Democrats saying we should support this man based on a lack of vehement anti-abortion rhetoric on one opinion, even though he has supported torture, and has advised against obeying international treaties in several instances. Also, as legal counsel to Bush as governor, Gonzalez misrepresented evidence to the governor on death row cases, resulting in several executions that were highly questionable.

We should oppose this man on his support of torture and his lack of professionalism on the death penalty in Texas, and we should get the fools on the far right who believe he is moderate on abortion to help us defeat him. IF he's confirmed, we will sorely regret it.

IF Bush nominates him.

8. I think Gonzalez is a major-league BushCo Player.
He shouldn't have made it as AG, and now they're pretending he may be "too liberal" for USSC?!? Give me a break!!

He's in the league. Whether or not he becomes the WH choice, this is pure spin.
