Ok. Wanted to put this up at Democrats.Org but I can't seem to post
to the blog - so I will shares with y'all my latest political scheme. I figure this can be applicable to all 50 states, not jsut Georgia - but tell me what y'all think?

"Hi there! this is my first post to the Democrats.org blog - but I had an idea this morning, and was wondering whether there was a possibility of implementing it or some version of it.

Basically - we are using a 50 state strategy and we want to focus on the grassroots right?

I have been checking out the various functions of the various Democratic groups in the Atlanta area - and it got me thinking....

How do these groups interconnect? Do they interact at all?

What would happen if we made a coalition of all the various Democratic Groups in Georgia? A way to get together - see who was doing what, how people's funding was going - come up with easy to implement state-wide strategies for turning GA back to blue.

I thought maybe if we had a coalition that stayed in touch - maybe did a retreat in off-years in the election cycle - a time for a few representatives from the groups to get together with members of the State Party and the DNC and discuss strategy in the areas of financing and campaigning and come away with some tactics and goals - and more contacts.

I know just in my county - Cobb - there are at least 3 different groups operating - but I don't think they speak with each other. What if they were all operating off the same page - were able to draw large groups of supporters from our area - used each others resources to advertise, and get the word out?

Now what if we took it to a City level - or a State level? I think it's important to draw the rest of the State into the game - there seems to be a fracture between Atlanta - and the rest of the State.

We could have these retreats somewhere outside of Atlanta - get everyone together - the Treasurers of the local groups to hash out finances - Leaders of the groups to talk about their areas and what their neighbors' issues are - How we can incorporate that into the State Party Platform.

Basically an opportunity for the local neighborhood groups to help the Statewide groups and vice-versa.

We don't have to implement retreats right away - but if we can at least start with maybe an email list with the various groups, and get buy-in to form a mutually beneficial Coalition - it would help us to better understand what Georgians want and need from Democrats - and how best to implement winning strategies, and consolidate funding.

Now I am an outsider to all of this - I have just recently gotten into the Political machine side of things - and I'm just starting out - so this idea may not be doable at all - but it just makes sense to me."

I would try and see again if you can post at the DNC site. I know they are interested in feedback, and those are some great ideas.

3. State Parties can't coordinate with 501c organizations
At least during an election. That was a major issue in '04. The state Dems couldn't share lists, events, etc., with the MoveOn and America Coming Together groups and any other 501c. It was a problem.

However, I agree that we all have to work together. I hope there's a way to do this.

Great idea!

4. Thanks for the Info!
I did not know that, and it may be why these groups are islands unto themselves. I do wonder if that applies to off-election years - that's when the real work needs to be done.

But this brings up a question for me - how then does the State Party operate on a local level? I guess they jsut open up their own offices, and recruit who they can?
