1. Pombo

Is just the hatchet man. The Bush administration wants to gut the ESA...This is the Larry Craig movement here. Pombo is just doing the bidding.

Amazing so many 'outdoorsman' side with the Chimp yet he just assume turn every public land and wooded area into a friggin strip mall.

I work closely with fishermen in my area to manage the local fish populations and to report on the vitality of that population---#1 so fish can live forever, #2 so people can enjoy fishing....They are NOT PLEASED with this current crop of thugs even though so many voted for him.

we are trying to inform the sportsman community and get things back in the right direction.

I feel the dems can start winning back some of these red states by getting the sportsmen back in the blue column. I see sportsmen as a "dominoes" voter meaning when they are on board others follow. sure, every group has their ignorant blowhards, but I feel there are many, many good sportsmen who have just been misinformed thx to the huge right wing media machine of the last 15 years.

They have been lied to and manipulated for years. Conservation is i ntheir best interest, and the wilderness-sportsman's goal is to point out that the current crop of Repubs don't mix with sportsmen, conservation or the outdoors.

4. I hear you
I think its tough, because the gun issue certainly sways some folks away from the Dems, but Dean is not for federal controls and Kerry was often showed shooting guns during the campaign. It did not matter.

In this area, the 'outdoorsmen' are the most rabid of Bush supporters, only out-matched by the religious quacks.

I hate it, because I totally love the natural world and I know these ‘outdoorsman’ can be great allies, but too often they are adversaries.

You are right about some of that. But there has been a real nice shift lately. Bush's policy on the last unprotected wilderness has pissed *alot* of outdoorsmen off - espeicially the rocky mountain front in Montana and the Tongass National Forest issues. hunters and fishermen use those areas as the best big game and fishing grounds in the in the nation. Bush's push to road and develop them has infurirated many of them, even some gun clubs.

The drilling in Wyoming is also raising flags. Look at what has happened in Montana recently as well. Alot of that is because of sportsmen outrage. Dem governor and state house.

I would say about 65-70$ of outdoorsmen are repub or liberitarian, while 35-40% are dems.

If we can get a tiny portion of that back it can go a long, long way.

8. Agree and I hope

There is a real chasm between people like Pombo and Republicans who have no problem with "Public Lands" and "Protecting Species"....Pombo is totally out of touch with mainstream America.

If "gutting the ESA" was such a winning idea then why doesn't the f**cker have it on his Website. He knows its a loser.

The Dems need to get someone in there to replace this jackass. My district is very safe (Frank Wolf, Rep) so any money I may donate to compaigns could go out of state if there's a chance to get rid of someone as vile as Pombo.

6. There was a good sized article
in the NYTimes last week about oil and gas development in Wyoming and how the hunters are starting to be PISSED at Bushco.
