Which GOP Senators are vulnerable in '06?
I heard Conrad Burns in Montana and Rick Santorum in Pennslyvania may be in serious trouble.

I know in my home state MT the State Senate Democratic Majority leader, Jon Tester, is running against Burns, and it looks like he has a damn good shot.

State Dem Chairman, Jim Pedersen might take on Jon Kyl here in AZ, but I have no idea how beatable Kyl is. Last time he ran opposed.

Who else?

3. I'd say Jim Talent (MO),
possibly. He's ranked something like 88th in popularity in the Senate. If Democrats could put up a strong candidate (Claire McCaskill, maybe?), there's a chance we could take it back.

In MO, our GOP governor is pissing off group after group. That can't be good for turnout.

5. Santorum is toast
It's common knowledge here. I live in Manayunk/Lower Roxborough Philly in a house full of GOPpers and they all even concede it.

The problem is that the Democratic primary is going to be a cat fight. We have Bob Casey who has the backing of the state party but from my POV looks like Lieberman or Biden light. (Moderate on most issues, Fiscal conservative, Pro-life, thinks we need to stay the course in Iraq.) and Chuck Pennacchio who I like a lot but is super-liberal, pro-choice, anti-war, pro-election reform, pro-environment and and in favor of pursuing alternative energy. (Which is another reason why the state Dems are supporting Casey, they don't think they can sell Chuck outside of Philly.)

Even here, I don't know a lot of Dems that like Casey. He's just the candidate that the state party chair (and governor) Ed Rendell wants to shove on us because he has name recognition.(his father used to be governor.) If that's my choice, Santorum or Casey, I may not vote because I really don't know that I want either in the US Senate. Neither of them supports any position on any issue that I care about.

6. Kyl is safe

He's not going anywhere. I think the Dems should make a race out of Nevada, instead of just sitting back and letting Ensign have an easy ride. We really need to add some more targets to the list.

7. I figured Kyl was safe, AZ is a bit crazier than one would think....
McCain is ok, as far as those guys go. Phony as hell, but he's ok.

We do have a Democratic Governor, Janet Napolitano.

The lege is filled with some serious crazies. The Senate leader, Russell Pearce says such goofy stuff, he could be a comedian. He and Zell would love each other.

But that's only one. Wee need a lot more than that!

I have no idea which other ones can be unseated.

9. It's still early
So things can change, more seats might come into contention than we thought. The important thing is defense, because in 2004 we gained picked up two seats, but that was no good because we lost 5 seats. Hopefully more seats become competitive.

10. Mike DeWine!
The Ohio GOP is falling apart and Mike DeWine has the lowest approval of the sitting Senators up for reelection. If Sherrod Brown runs, and focuses on health care and trade fairness, we can win this one.
