It's about having a Perma-War, stupid!
America thrives on having the population living in fear that "someone" is going to invade us, undermine us, or otherwise overcome our economic system.
We had the Perma-War of the "War on Communism". That "war" has has fizzled out.
As that Perma-War was running out of steam, our great and wise leaders concocted the "War on Drugs". That "war" doesn't have enough effect to keep our Military-Industrial Complex swimming in the cash they are accustomed to.
Now we have the ultimate of permanent wars, (or Perma-Wars).
The "War on Terrorism" is a declared war that can never end as there is no one to sign a peace treaty. The "War on Terrorism" can be directed at anyone, anywhere as our great leaders deem necessary and for whatever reason.
Anything Korea or Iran does will be defined as being an act of "terrorism". Chavez, in Venezuela, will be defined as a "terrorist" to justify an attack on him. Anyone who displeases the great and wise leadership of America will face the same charge.
Finally, we have a ready made excuse to attack anyone, anywhere. And we need to keep our military fully prepared for all the possible battles to come.
Are you willing to pass on supporting this version of "Perma-War"?
Someday, the rest of the world will get tired of America being the world's bully.
Or, we Americans might someday wise up, get over our manufactured fear and decide the costs are too expensive.
