Welcome to the Monday Morning Head Exploder.

Bush says US is in Iraq because of attacks on US
Sat Jun 18, 2005, 1:15 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush defended the war in Iraq, telling Americans the United States was forced into war because of the September 11 terror strikes.

"We went to war because we were attacked, and we are at war today because there are still people out there who want to harm our country and hurt our citizens," Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

"Some may disagree with my decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, but all of us can agree that the world's terrorists have now made Iraq a central front in the war on terror," said the president.

Bush: No Iraq link to 9/11 found
President says Saddam had ties to al-Qaida, but apparently not to attacks

COX NEWS SERVICE

WASHINGTON -- President Bush, having repeatedly linked Saddam Hussein to the terrorist organization behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, said yesterday there is no evidence that the deposed Iraqi leader had a hand in those attacks, in contrast to the belief of most Americans.

The president's comments came in response to a reporter's question about Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press" program that Iraq was the "geographic base" of the terrorists behind the attacks on New York and Washington.

Bush said yesterday there was no attempt by the administration to try to confuse people about any link between Saddam and Sept. 11.

"No, we've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with September the 11th," Bush said
.

OK, I just can't get my head wrapped around this one. We were "forced" into a war with Iraq because of the 9/11 attack which Bush says has no connection to Iraq.

And then there's this: "but all of us can agree that the world's terrorists have now made Iraq a central front in the war on terror," said the president."

Boy, I sure can't argue with that. NOW they have. I wonder why? Anybody know how many daily "terrorist" attacks there were in Iraq PRIOR to our invasion?

1. What does that mean exactly, when * says that
. . . the world's terrorists have now made Iraq a central front in the war on terror."

Sorry to be dense, but I don't understand the meaning.

2. There would be no attacks on the troops if they weren't there
Bush lied to get the US to go to war against a country that posed no "imminent threat" to the US and over 1700 American troops have died. Bush should be held accountable for these deaths as well as the 100,000+ Iraqis that have died as a result of his illegal war.

4.  we have to have a critical mass of people to care about this issue before
Bush will be held accountable. While many more are becoming disinchanted with the war--there has not been a critical mass who hold him/others accountable.

5. True, that's why we can't let the DSM disappear.
We need to make it abundantly clear to people that Bush is responsible. He needs to be held accountable for his actions.

6. This is the best Bush or Bush supporter excuse...
it is not arguable.. Bush knew that by starting a war in Iraq all the terrorist would flock there instead of planning diabolical attacks on American soil.. Of course it took Al Queda 8 years to accomplish Sept. 11 after the first attempt in 93 so who really knows what they could be planning..

The ironic thing is that what Bush refers to as a terrorist the Reagan admin referred to as a freedom fighter in Afghanistan in the 80's. Remember Rambo 2 or 3 where Rambo has to go in to save the colonel who is captured by the Russians? The colonel says to the Russian interrogator something to the effect of you are going to lose this war because you are fighting freedom fighters, and we have already learned our lesson with Vietnam, etc. etc.. Saw that movie the other day and the irony of it was not lost on me.

7. Well, who is going to hold him accountable?
The corporate media? The loyal Democrats beholden to the corporate ruling elite?
