Need help naming a blog
A buddy of mine and myself are about to create a blog. I'm a hardcore lefty, almost a green but not quite. I'm very much an economic populist. I volunteered for Dean. I think you get the idea. He is, on the other hand, a lefty socially but to the right on economics. He's a perfect DLC dem, loves Joe Biden, etc. So we're discussing names for this blog since that's the first step in creating it. I've mentioned shadesofblue, greentopurple or something else that reflects that we're both dems but on opposite sides of the scale. I'm not sure if I like using green in the title. I agree with the greens on a lot but not everything. I'm more of a populist. Should I use a lighter shade of blue instead? Skytopurple? Appreciate your help.

"shadesofblue" is great! :toast:

It definitely does suggest different opinions on the "blue" side of things.

9. Another advantage of "hue" over "shades"
Another thing about hue is it is the variant of intensity rather than of "blending" colors. "Shades of blue" implies a certain ideological puritism... I am "pure" blue while you are a tainted mongrel "purple." With the hues, we are all the same color (i.e. shared values), it is the intensity of our blueness that differs, i.e. differences in political strategy (gradualism vs. direct action, how much to "negotiate" away, etc.).

6. hey you stole one of my ideas!
Last election season I was one of those fulltime volunteers that lived in the campaign office and whenever there was a clash of egos between locals and campaign people, somebody going nuts, or anything like that to cause a stress in relations we had this running joke of taking a deep breath and repeating like a mantra: "big tent, big tent, big tent" It started as a joke but it is amazing because it became almost necessary therapy that both made us stop taking ourselves so serioiusly and of course to remind us of the common cause.

8. I use it that way too. I keep reminding others that democracy only
works if we all don't get what we want..but we get what we need.

The Large Umbrella
A Large Umbrella
Big Tent
Coalition of the Unwilling
Left and Center
Center and Left-Of
Moderation with Progress

ooh I just thought of this one!

Remember the Reichstag (i.e. the importance of building center-left coalitions).
