Its a beautiful political move. I have brand new shiny respect for Dean as a politician.

* Dean is getting a ton of media coverage. Everyone is talking about this.

* "Pundits" are considering the question "Are Republicans mostly white christians?".

* Meanwhile, Presidential hopefulls get a free "move to the center" card with the "he doesn't speak for me" rhetoric.

Don't you understand whats going on here? Dean is the hyper-left anchor, which the hopefulls are using to push themselves to the center (in the view of the MSM).

This will continue. It is a deliberate move.

1. Downing. Street. Memo.
They're in a panic. It is gaining steam. Dean is a diversion.

2. I agree...
It's Bad (High-Strung Leftist) Cop and Good (Centrist Reasonable) Cop. Dean's more than willing to take the punches and punch back, this allows him to raise tons of cash and frame the issues which others will ultimately address, and appear to be the "safe bet" by comparison.

Brilliant.

13. Dean seems to relish the fight as much as the Big Dawg did.
Clinton said he loved it when they attacked him cuz he could swing back.

Dean got that lesson while too many other DEMS were busy keeping each other polite and being used for doormats by the GOP.

Swing away, Dr. Dean. Mix it up all you want to. We got yer back.

5. if that's the case, bad cop and slightly less bad would be better
Like if Obama said, "Dr. Dean's comments were unfortunate. A lot of people fear those who are different and lack the flexibility to deal them. We need to respect their right to do to associate with their own kind. The GOP provides just this kind of sanctuary for paranoid honkies, and I would like to thank the GOP for keeping them busy and off the streets."

12. "I deplore what Dr. Dean said about republicans not working for a living."
"Certainly the rank and file, the religious right, the racists, and paranoid schizophrenics have hold down a job to put food on their family. It's just the corporate con men, who pump and dump stock, set up shell corporations, and evade taxes by claiming their corporate headquarters are a houseboat in Antiqua, and the elected party leaders who rewrite laws so corporate crimes aren't illegal, those are the ones that don't earn a living. So I apologize on Dr. Dean's behalf to all those working folks who are being fooled into thinking that the GOP is looking out for them. It's not your fault your momma got a kink in your umbilical cord cutting off the oxygen to your brain the last half of her pregnancy."

"Oh, and I think your Jeff Foxworthy is funny. Really."

10. nor the progressive vote ??
the Party has sold us out on their hawkish support for the war and occupation in Iraq ... they are running an anti-choice (not pro-life) candidate in PA ...

yeah, we sure do need to move even further to the right to bring in all those moderates ... that strategy seems to be working very well ...

16. Anti-choice...or Anti-Christ
Hey, Bob Casey has a REAL shot to beat the snot out of Santorum.

Please don't start bashing him...Rickypoo has his eye on the prize in 2008 and we need to cut his legs out from under him.

Anti-choice...or Anti-Christ. To me and a lot of Pennsylvanians, the choice is a no brainer

11. I get it, and...
see the whole thing as great DC theater.

Congresscritters have to run for re-election, deal with their constitutents, raise campaign money and deal with the rest of Congress to try to get something done.

Dean's job is different. He raises the other money and gets the juices boiling. He can say what everyone else can't, but would like to, and they can all be "Shocked, shocked," that such things are being said. And Dean collects the money from everyone upset about the spades he calls.

Compare that putz "leading" the other party repeating the same tired old lines with Dean.

You realize that we don't control one piece of the government, so we don't have anything to lose with Dean's big mouth. It can't get worse, but it could get a lot better.

They have everything to lose.

18. I agree
Howard Dean is just another red herring in the long line of MSM pawns - - Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, etc. - - who are being used to distract the public's short attention span away from the real issues.
