The social costs of war
From Danny Schecter's blog: http://www.newsdissector.org/blog/
You can reply there as well as here.

The social costs of the war are being felt among the troops, too, as BBC reports:

"The number of U.S. Army officers getting divorced has soared in the past few years, the Pentagon says, a trend blamed on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2004 the rate of divorce was more than three times as high as in 2002, figures showed."

There's no surprise there, Remember the cases of the soldiers who came home to North Carolina and killed their spouses? War is abnormal an being become unhinged in war --and we are just seeing the beginning of it.

1. As a guy who came back from 'Nam to discover his wife staying overnight ..
... with her lover, I'm offended that anyone would use such a broad brush on such tragedies to, again, blame the victims. I certainly won't argue that returning troops aren't far more likely to be emotionally disturbed, and that some will be more likely to resort to violence. However, the unspeakable hubris of heaping blame on top of what's often a compounded betrayal of trust is reprehensible as hell.
