So, if * was impeached and convicted....
Cheney would become president?

If Bush were convicted and removed first, then Cheney would be in a position to choose his successor....

Or, if Bush and Cheney were somehow simultaneously impeached and convicted, it would be Hastert?

:wow:

1. And if Hastert couldn't do it..
Doesn't it go to the Senior Republican Senator?

6. Yes it does then to Condi
through to the end which is Jim Nicholson who is Veteran Affairs at the bottom of the list. Chao who is labor and Gutierrez who is commerce are ineligble to take the presidency because they were not born in the US.

18. Nice how Condi's move to state benefits the hard-core neo-cons
in the event that the line of succession needs to be invoked, ja? For some odd reasons, that's never occurred to me before.

3. OMG. Maybe we'd better forget about the impeachment idea and do
this the old-fashioned way (in 2006 and 2008).

5. Can we impeach the whole administration, then?
I don't want a President Cheney.

7. You could get Cheney and Bush and maybe even Condi
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 02:23 AM by lenidog
but you couldn't get them all so we would still be stuck with a Republican.

4. In the unlikely scenario that the shit actually hits the fan.

We would probably see the same thing that happened with Nixon.

Cheney would resign, Bush appoints a clean VP, maybe a McCain or a Hagel, then Bush is forced to resign.

I see this as about as likely as pigs flying, but if it came down to it, there would never be an impeachment, let alone impending conviction.

there would never be an impeachment.

are still screwed.

16. Why would Bush appoint a "clean" VP?
Seems to me he'd want someone who'd cover his backside (and discourage his opponents from trying to impeach him).

13. This is all just talk
A lot of people here are getting their hopes up for something that will just never happen. Wehether or not he committed impeachable offenses is not relevant. This Congress will just never allow that process to take place. Even with a Democratic Congress, there would likely be too many Vichy Democrats to make impeachment a reality. Fight the battles that are winnable.

15. And not just the winnable ones, but the battles of *today*. . .
rather than imagined and hoped for battles in some distant, speculative future.

14. No, no, no, no, no!
In order to impeach CuckooBananas and his attack dog there will have to be a Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. So when Bush and Cheney are impeached and removed from office the new President of the United States will be Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
