What if they say Saddam shot someone with his pistol ??
And the "jury" says they need to see the "evidence"? Where is the evidence. It is in a playroom off the side of the Oval Office. Bush keeps the pistol as a "souvenir" of his great victory over the "dictator" - in the same room where Bill Clinton used to get his knob shined. But what happens if they need to see the "evidence"?

2. I wonder if Sadaam will even make it to trial.
Maybe he'll be flown around in a small plane long enough for the plane to crash.

Consider the damage he could do if someone asked him about his friendship with Rumsfeld and his connections to the CIA.

6. Odds are quite good that Saddam dies of a heart attack or
some similar ailment before he gets his day in court. You can count on it.

3. I've been thinking....
How much you wanna bet Bush's poll numbers go up during Saddam's trial?

For what reason? Well.. there really shouldn't be one. We were supposed to be tracking down Osama and opened a major can of worms in Iraq.

But still.. you know how many Americans are. And I have a feeling Bush will enjoy a boost in poll numbers as long as the trial of Saddam is in the news.

Wait and see...

4. But they know they can't have the trial until the "insurgents" are...
under control. That could be a spell. But they would not dare to have Saddam's trial at this time. They have to get the insurgency under control. They would love to hang Saddam as a war criminal but they can't -- just yet - in my opinion.

7. True.... but.....
I'd much rather they have the trial (as they were trying to do) in the next two months..

...than to have it right during the '06 senate elections.. :eyes:

8. That is why there is a concerted effort to clean up the insurgents..
as we speak. They "need" to have Saddam's trial. They believe that will give them the required legitimacy in the eyes of the Iraqi people and the Arab world.

5. What's with these guys and their damn souvenirs?
Like Rummy and his shard of metal from the Pentagon attacks?:

Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita said Friday night that Rumsfeld has a shard of metal from the jetliner that struck the Pentagon on a table in his office and shows it to people as a reminder of the tragedy Pentagon workers shared on Sept. 11, 2001.

"He doesn't consider it his own," Di Rita said, adding the piece is on display for the Pentagon. "We are mindful of the fact that if somebody has an evidentiary requirement to have this shard of metal, we will provide it to them."

...or the FBI dudes and theirs:

-snip

The Justice Department investigation also collected testimony that Pasquale D'Amuro, FBI Director Robert Mueller's executive assistant director for terrorism until last summer, asked a supervisory agent to "obtain a half dozen items from the WTC debris so the items could be given to dignitaries."

9. They all do that crap
US military units have shipped a bunch of 'golden guns' back to their respective unit museums. A lot of them have been handed out to new Iraqi military honchos, too. They are like kids with baseball cards.
