How come the media aren't covering the poll shift?
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 06:32 PM by Mass_Liberal
I don't get it. The political articles on cnn are all about how Kerry is well ahead of the pack in NH. Are they deliberately not talking about the new polls showing a tightening race, or do they just not know about them?

1. They're selling smoke.
They frankly have no better idea what's going on than you or I do, so they're selling what they think people want. I agree with you that the tightening of the race (IF the polls are accurate) is the real story.

They could also be playing the angle that, should Dr. Dean do well Tuesday, he becomes the 'Comeback Kid' and they can run their mouths about that for a while.

3. What polls are showing a tightening race?
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 06:39 PM by lancdem
I believe Kerry is ahead by no less than 9 points and as many as 20 points. That could change, of course, by Tuesday.

Edit: I do know the race among Dean, Clark and Edwards appears to be close.

8. check out slinkerwink's post
I think it was Suffolk University poll and a few others. Zogby also said he thinks that Dean has bottomed out and is beginning to rise a little.

4. They know "Everything!" It's what they "choose" to report that's the
problem. Unfortunately putting out these polls turn off people to going out and voting if they think a Candidate is way in the lead and also causes those who need to go with a "winner" to just vote for the Leader rather than the one they wanted.

In essence they are "Calling" the Elections before the people have voted.

I think they should stop doing it unless they list every single poll. And should avoid any editorializing. But, then look at DU, the polls are everywhere with folks cheering about their Candidate being up and asking when the rest are going to drop out,so how do you stop it?

5. They are
I just saw a piece on the race tightening on CNN or FOX (MSNBC is, of course, showing profiles of actors all freaking day). They showed the latest polls and tape of Dean at what looked like his HQ encouraging supporters that the new polls look good, the race was far over, it looks like he may win, etc.

10. Short, but nice piece
It was a nice piece. It seemed more like his real personality. Enthusiastic, but not like Tues. (Of course, I'm the exception who thought the 'I have a scream' speech was fine, but found the mellow interviews on Weds. and Thurs. rather disconcerting.)

7. The CNN poll has Kerry ahead by 12
unless there's a newer one. I don't know about Fox. Anyone have details?

11. That was just one poll, the Zogby poll
That's the only I've seen that shows the race possibly tightening between Kerry and Dean.

13. Probably Fox
If the Zogby poll is the one showing the race tightening, then Fox was probably the channel that showed the piece. They've been interviewing Zogby constantly the last two weeks.

Personally, as much as I support Kerry, I think that the race is closer than the polls indicate. It's natural to have the candidate bunched together this early.
