Lost liberals ponder path back to power
This article is a perfect example of media "skewing" regarding liberals. Sadly, Farrell has written some nice objective pieces in the past...I guess he's gone to the dark side.

By John Aloysius Farrell
Denver Post Washington Bureau Chief

Washington - American liberals staged a revival meeting here last week, arriving at the near unanimous conclusion that their path to power rests in telling voters what the Democratic Party stands for ... if only they could figure it out themselves.

An eclectic band of middle-aged lefties and earnest young militants crowded the halls of a downtown Washington hotel, toting Starbucks cups and laptops and wearing campaign buttons that said "True Blue" and "Think Blue" and "Keep Abortion Legal."

The conference was called "Take Back America." Attendees listened to Bill Moyers and Jesse Jackson; pondered the differences between "patriarchal theology" and "liberation theology"; and attended plenary sessions with lofty titles such as "Progressive Agenda: Five Initiatives For a More Perfect Union."

Parodied by foes as a fussy elite, here was a pillar of the Democratic base: white, educated, anti-war, trending female, receptive to gays. There were few black or Hispanic Americans and fewer, if any, Republicans.

Ugghh. I hate people who play victim.

I'm a liberal. I'm not lost. I know exactly what I stand for, loudly and proudly!

2. The thing about Republicans is...
...that they don't stand for anything. They talk about smaller government, but then increase the size of government. They talk about liberty, but get pissed off when we criticize the PATRIOT Act. Either they're lying, or they're schizophrenic, or both.

At least we Democrats all agree on something - our nation is only as strong as the people who help keep it going. And strengthening those people means providing decent health care, preserving Social Security, guaranteeing civil rights and human rights, etc.

3. The article highlights the need for Dems to wean themselves from corporate
money and agendas and do exactly as you say.

Give the party back to the people. MKJ

4. Actually, I think GOP philosophy really is tighter than in the Dem Party.
Their rhetoric is not always honest. But the GOP philosophy that swept Bush into office is the philosophy of the religious right married to the philosophy of corporate welfare. They have a message, and they stay on it. If you want to know what that message is, just read the Wingnut Daily:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/

The major disagreement among them has to do with immigration. The religious right inclines toward closed borders. The corporate welfarists want more open borders.

In contast, the Democratic Party today spans greens, socialists, traditional liberals, classical liberals, and civil libertarians. Reading here, it's clear that the differences are many, great, and frequently aired. If you doubt that, consider your icon, and the discussion over the second amendment.

That's just the nature of today's political landscape. Rather than trying to copy the GOP, we need to develop a more appropriate to fighting such an anti-american ideology. It won't be as ideological as theirs. It can't be.

6. Exactly.
And I don't often say that to someone quoting the Bible.

7. Would You Rather Lose, As Mr. Frank Sez?
But the Democratic establishment "is absolutely determined to not let that old-school economic populism back in the door," Frank said. "They would rather lose elections. And they do. They lose and they lose and they lose."

I'm torn, because I really don't want to vote for another candidate who supported and still supports war quagmire in Iraq.

Is letting the GOP drag this country down into hell for more years maybe a good thing?
