Marty Walsh: "we're going to be engaged as never before!"

"Over the next few months we're going to be engaged as never before."

I see the strategy now. Conyers does the investigation and the grunt work, Senators like Kennedy will perform the coup de grace.

Dear ,

It's been an interesting few weeks.

During that time, as we all worked together to get the word out and force the fringe GOP leadership to step back from the brink, you created a powerful political force -- right now over a hundred thousand other people who took action through TedKennedy.com are reading this message.

And you did it -- they backed down. The Republican caucus fractured and forced their leaders to back away from the nuclear option. Democrats were united -- in the Senate and in neighborhoods across America.

That's the potential of what we can do together. This new community you've built shows that if we can bring together people like you, who will stand up and fight alongside Senator Kennedy, we can start winning.

And boy, do the right-wing demagogues hate that. They hate that their tiny faction is losing its grip on the Republican Party. They hate that Senator Kennedy helped lead the fight against their radical nominees. And they really hate that Senator Kennedy opened up the process and involved people like you.

It drives them crazy that all of a sudden, one of their fiercest critics just added a hundred thousand more voices of ordinary Americans to the effort to beat back their fringe agenda and get on with the business of governing.

That's our commitment to you. You will be a part of everything that happens -- because these battles ultimately affect you. Elections aren't just about winning -- they are about what you stand for, what you've done, and most importantly what you're going to do with the responsibility to govern.

Senator Kennedy is taking the lead on issues that directly affect people across our country -- and you will be a part of it every step of the way. Here are just a few:

He's trying to pass the STAR Act, which would close a loophole that lets banks skim an extra billion dollars from college loan programs -- money that should be going to additional Pell grants or other loan programs.

He's working with moderates in both parties to bring common sense to our immigration policy with a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

He's proposing a fair minimum wage so that working people can afford decent housing and feed their families -- the current minimum wage doesn't allow that anywhere in this country.

And he's introduced legislation to finally provide the funding to dramatically change the lives of millions of children. With hundreds of billions spent on a war of choice with Iraq, the goal of cutting child poverty in half over the next decade is a modest one by comparison. All it requires is the simple courage to act.

This is the kind of thing the right-wing doesn't want to talk about -- because they're not interested in solving problems. Ideological crusades, abuse of power and corruption are the only things they have to offer.

They want to stop Senator Kennedy, weaken his leadership in the Senate, and lock all of us out of the process of governing.

There's no way we're going to let that happen. Over the next few months we're going to be engaged as never before. And I look forward to working with you to make it happen.

Sincerely,

Marty Walsh
Campaign Manager

1. Does DU have no regard for Senator Kennedy?
Always seeking leadership, we don't know what it is when it slaps us in the face.

4. Downing Street? Bolton? Media?
Why isn't he talking about the issues that you've been bitching about? And why does Teddy get a pass, but nobody else does?
