MSNBC brings up Downing Street Memo
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6409077/

The Downing Street Memo, continues to gurgle under the surface. The latest is that some people are taking the story where the media doesn't seem to want to go (again). AfterDowningStreet.org is about moving past the actual memo and asking what the repercussions should be. This is accompanied by a blogger collective calling itself the Big Brass Alliance. It's very hard to tell how many people care about this story, but today at least, it looks like the calls for investigation and even impeachment are growing.

24. Yes
It is important, when you talk about the MEMO (because that is what it is, memo is short for memorandum. minutes are a form of memorandum. clear?) to assert the seriousness of the memo (from a legal standpoint).

it is also important not to confuse joe dumbass by changing the terms.

the downing street "minutes" does not exist in the news. clear?

36. Who cares! The Brits have called it "The Secret Downing Street Memo"
and it CONTAINS the MINUTES of the meeting Blair had on July 23, 2002 during which officials reported on talks with the Bush administration about Iraq.

but I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before they start bringing up Clinton's name and somehow attaching it to this story. :eyes:

8. Ask why they never book the KnightRidder reporters who broke the story
here in the US. They always booked reporters who broke ANY story about Clinton.

Landay and Strobel reported the Bush White House was cooking the intel books since Oct2002, and no broadcast media will allow their stories to get airtime.

23. Oh, for Pete's Sakes.... Look what they're blogging about on MSNBC
Forget that our country is swirling down the Fascism-tubes. Our troops are dying every day in a war based on lies, and the corporations are taking Americans down into the wrath of bankruptcy. Oh and did I mention our Freedoms shot to hell, like the Patriot Acts I, II, and II... and ready to have more done to it, and the Nat'l ID ACT!

No, they'd rather scream like idiots about the below crap.

MSNBC sees the big news from FReepers more important:

snip

My colleague Alex Johnson's article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8047423/) today about the American Family Association's boycott of Ford for "promoting the homosexual lifestyle" has definitely set our "letters to the editor" mailbox on fire (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4838957/), and it's making an impact among bloggers as well.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6409077

end snip

WHAT SIGNIFICANCE does this have with all the MAJOR problems facing us and the world!?!? Honestly!

12. It's on MSNBC'S blog page--BOOOO!!!
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 01:41 PM by rocknation
That's not directed at YOU, Formercia, but at MSNBC's idea of a look-down-their-noses co-existence with the blogosphere.

When they learned that bloggers had been invited to the Democratic National Convention, MSNBC assigned their reporters to file "personal" blogs online along with their "normal" coverage and didn't see a drop of irony in the fact that the blogosphere was born out of their mandate to act as an extension of the Bush empire's PR department.

So MSNBC mentions that the Downing Street memo has been mentioned on a blog, and now I'm supposed to nominate them for a Pultizer prize? Well, guess what--I did a search of MSNBC.com on the Downing Street memo, and came up with four other blog entries, Tim Robbins mentioning it on Hardball, and a San Francisco affiliate's story about--wait for it!!!--an http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7928142">online organzation that's trying give the DMS more mainstream media exposure! BIG EFFING DEAL!!!!! (Them, Formercia, not you!)

Now please excuse me while I turn this post into a letter to their Web editor.

I called out to their hearts and true patriotic duties; even mentioning their children and grandchildren. I went for their hearts.

Question: Was this mentioned on network TV or on their website, only?

See, that's what ticking me off. I mentioned that to them heavily stating that many people, especially our elderly do not have access to the Internet and many have no clue...

22. Downing Street Memo ACTION ALERT
Well, the strategy is to focus on 3 mainstream media outlets per day, which is thought to be much more effective than the this unorganized clusterfuck that has been the dominate trend.

take time now to read it at dKos
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/2/81018/97195

if you would like, go to www.downingstreetmemo.com and the take action link will have a daily update on the 3 media outlets being targeted.

And I did not see mention of this off the mainpage. Maybe it has already scrolled into oblivion, but this fight is the next big fight for progressives, liberals and democrats alike (I know they overlap, don't point it out). Can someone please get this effort the attention it deserves?

-stampy

PS - These forums are ridiculous. Let me say this, I have browsed the forums before. I have never registered (not all that interested, to be honest).

I am a member of the dKos community, and I have been *attempting* to search DU for word of a VERY IMPORTANT announcement. That is, members of the blogosphere have put together a focused campaign to wake up the mainstream media Re: the downing street memo.

But what's this? I cannot do a search unless I give you money! That is in terribly poor taste, whoever came up with that genius idea.

And what else, I cannot make a post for 24 hours because I use gmail. So I had to use my school email account.

Oh, and what else? I cannot create a post. I have to reply to a certain number first.

Let me say this, if you are trying to discourage trolls or whatever, this would only dissuade the weakest and least determined among them. The only real defense is alert moderators.

So now I am jumping through the hoops, all the while a really important topic may or may not receive coverage. A really important action alert, for our movement (all of us) may never be heard.

And really, this is the most ridiculous forum I have ever experienced. Your "defenses" are not so much deterents as fucking headaches for legitimate new users like myself.

19. I wish someone somewhere would point out
that the reason this meeting's minutes are so crucial is because of TRUST. How can we ever trust this President again in matters of defense when he cooked the books, lied about it and then next it's oh look-Iran is going to bomb us anyday-we can't trust that-no more pre-emptive wars, no more neo-con fantasy world.

It's a matter of betrayed trust over the most crucial thing. Keeping America safe..it's the future that matters..and that's the way it should be put out.

27. Kerry is speaking out.
This is from the SouthCoast Today article that is linked in the "Kerry Assails Bush on Iraq" thread...LBN. Kerry is speaking about the Downing Street Memo in this snippet, and the last two sentences are music to my ears. Someone in his camp is definitely paying attention to the blogs!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1516892

"When I go back (to Washington) on Monday, I am going to raise the issue," he said of the memo, which has not been disputed by either the British or American governments. "I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home. And it's amazing to me the way it escaped major media discussion. It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."

35. I agree BUT it is a start
A trickle can turn into a flood that brings down the entire dam.

There may be readers of their blog who haven't heard about the memo. They read about it and ask, "What are they talking about?" They do some research and viola! One more person has been educated.

It takes time. Today it's a mention in a blog. Tomorrow it's on the website. Two days from now it's mentioned on the news.

I'm hoping that Kerry brings it up on Monday.
