Suprisingly, I thought the President was pretty skillfull in his press conference today. He was LYING, but skillfully lying.
In particular, I think he had a nice dodge when a pressman had the temerity to ask him about a difference of opinion in extracting stem cells from discarded embryos and the process that produces those discarded embryos (invitro fertilization). Bush deflected by moving it to a "funding issue". That is, the federal government shouldn't fund anything that could be objected to in the "culture of life".
Our talking points: a) This is a wobble. Bush lacks the courage of his conviction. If destruction of life is wrong, than Bush should be AGAINST the production of excess embryos that will be subsequently "killed". Bush is DEFINITELY against abortion because he believes that a fetus is a life and a life is sacred. He even believes against the "destruction" of embryos with extraordinary deformities that require partial dialation and extration to protect the health of the mother.
Bush is wobbly on this issue. He dodged today, but we have to force his hand on his hypocrisy. I'd be interested in knowing how many embryos are discarded per year in this country vs how many abortions there are. What about the "Invitro Embryonic Holocaust"?????
b) If it's a matter of federal funding ... than federal insurance plans should NOT cover invitro fertilization. It results in "extra embryos" that are ALMOST ALWAYS discarded. The "snowflake babies" are few and inbetween and token gesture at best.
Nice dodge Mr President, but you are dancing on the head of the pin. We indend to knock you off!!!!
