Using the term "cloning" is a lose/lose proposition when it comes to stem cell research.
We need to rebrand it.
Just like anti-evolution freakazoids use the term "intelligent design" to somehow make their lame-brained view of life "acceptable", we need to rebrand stem cell research and "cloning" in the political lexicon.
Since looking at stem cell research and what the building blocks are, words like "therapeutic", "neurons", "regeneration" and other semi-yawning "move it along" terminology would bore nearly all of those that don't or will ever GET the benefits of this promising science.
Therefore, I hereby decree that "stem cell research", "cloning" and "therapeutic cloning" now just get a vague acronym for a yet promising non-confrontational description.
Instead of Dean (and anyone else) saying that the Democrats for are therapeutic cloning or stem cell research, say they are for the TNR Project.
TNR stands for T (therapeutic) N (Neuronal) R (regeneration). It's another way of describing the stem cell process without making clueless ears perk up when they hear the word "clone".
An example:
Russert: So Howard, how do the Democrats pass any legislation for the controversial clone...I mean...cloning lab experiments that some Californian alternative cloning scientists would want to work on behind closed doors from the American public?
Dean: We should support federal funding for the promising new TNR Project Initiative, which offers wonderful new medical breakthroughs for not only all Americans, but the World's citizens as well.
See?
