Is the Radical Right really imploding a bit,
or is it all part of the script?

2. I think so..
But that doesn't mean they're going to just give up. They have lots of promises to keep.

10. Their necks are also on the line. Lot's of crimes committed that require
strict discipline among the group to keep it all undercover. The stress must be enormous!

4. I'm wondering if they're doing this on purpose...
Ok, tin-foil hat time--but this is what I'm wondering...

Junior/Rove and the rest of BushCo see their polls in the toilet. SocSec has tanked and the war in Iraq is worsening by the hour. Their over-reaching reaction to Schiavo was damaging.

BushCo knows it's in trouble.

So...what do they do---have the conservative end of the party take a dive---so they can allow the "moderate", "centrist" factions of the party to emerge and shine.

The Conservatives know they've gone as far as they can in this leg of the race. They need to pass the torch to a popular centrist (McCain) who can help them win races--while adhering to their neocon agenda.

Although I think McCain is an opportunistic, self-serving Junior lap dog--much of America thinks he's Mr. Moderate. That reputation was solidified with his work on the filibuster compromise. I think that entire mess was staged--to swing the focus on a moderate in the Rep party--and away from the unpopular, conservative extremists.

America is angry at Congress and Junior right now. They're ripe for change. They're sick of BushCo and they're growing intolerant of Iraq. They're looking for something new. Rove is orchestrating that "something new" and he's doing it with McCain.

If the Dems were smart, they'd go balls out, formulate their own "Contract With America" and present themselves as the party with real solutions that benefit working Americans and the middle class. The Dems could take it all, if they would just craft and publicize the hell out of a plan---before Rove renders the Dems obsolete.

Just my 2 cents...

5. Rove and McCain are not a twosome
believe me. Rove was a political genius in recording and seeking out the far right religious fanatics to vote for Bush in 2004.

The democrats are doing just fine, thank you.

and it wouldn't surprise me. McCain showed his true colors during the '04 campaign.

7. I'm with you on the Dems should go balls out but I think your point about
Rove and McCain is at this point, to me anyway, farfetched.

I think the Repug Party is in a huge battle with itself right now and unfortunately all the attention or the majority of it will go to Repug candidates during primary season for 08.

Dems will be lucky if cspan shows up to cover them in Iowa and NH

MSM will spin this as "which of these guys(Repugs only, natch)will succeed GWB"

9. Dems have an opportunity for sure
Karl and pals though, are not that competent, nor are Republicans really all that unified. The Republicans will emphasize a moderate platform as they get closer to elections. If they win, they'll go racing back to the far right again when it comes time to enact policies. These guys are phonies and cynical power brokers, not evil conspiratorial geniuses. They really don't care about the Christofascist wing other than to keep them foaming at the mouth and and fighting distracting public culture battles. As always with Republicans, follow the money and you'll see where their priorities really lie.

The whole Republican house of cards is built on the electorate being ignorant, nationalistic, and disengaged from reality. If people feel more personal pain, get some facts and pay a little attention, the Republican majority is doomed no matter what tricks they pull out of their hats.

I love the conspiracy theories too, but don't give these guys too much credit. We will win by using the truth and sticking to principles.

Your statement, "If the Dems were smart, they'd go balls out, formulate their own "Contract With America" and present themselves as the party with real solutions that benefit working Americans and the middle class" ..is dead on. We do that, the Republicans gaming within their own party becomes meaningless and just makes them look schizophrenic.
