Ken Blackwell, Bill Frist, Condi Rice, Gingrich, and Ahnuld! Hmm...
In trying to follow up on this DU thread I went off on a slightly different tangent and ran across some very interesting things. What I'm going to post here (at least in this first post) will only scratch the surface, but it may give others here a starting point.

I started by investigating kenblackwell.com which is a "Ken Blackwell for Ohio Governor" website. I did a whois for the domain which gave me a number of pieces of info. For example, the domain is hosted at IP address 68.152.85.31. That IP address hosts 117 different domains including things like citizensfortheprotectionofmarriage.com, citizensfortheprotectionoffaithandvalues.com, and defendmarriageyes.com, all of which display the website for something called the "Michigan Christian Citizens Alliance".

That same IP also hosts - get this! - AMENDFORARNOLD.COM, as well as variations such as amend4arnold.com, etc.

If you poke around in the whois data for the 117 sites you'll find that a number of them, including kenblackwell.com are associated with newmediacommunications.com, which resides at the same IP address.
On it's website New Media Communications states that "Our political practice group consults for Republican campaigns and party organizations in the United States and center and center-right parties around the world, continuing to pioneer new initiatives in online politics". Their "News & Info" page has the following:

November 3, 2004
NMC CLIENTS WIN BIG IN KEY RACES

CLEVELAND, OHIO - You might call it the best kind of "November Surprise" for New Media Communications (NMC). With the declaration of President George W. Bush as winner of the presidential election, the company emerged from the 2004 General Election with a perfect score. "Every client who turned to us for online strategy and Internet solutions came out a winner," NMC President Mike Connell said.

From the White House to Capitol Hill, New Media clients garnered victories that surprised the pundits and made political history:
# Most notable was the Bush/Cheney '04 Presidential campaign. President Bush won 51.1% of the popular vote, enabling him to start off his second term with a mandate. Bush was the first U.S. President to garner a majority of the popular vote since his father did the same in 1988. He earned a record breaking 58.9 million votes -- more than any other U.S. President .

# In his South Dakota Senate race, former Congressman John Thune scored an upset over current Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle in the most expensive Senate race in history. This marked the first time since 1952 that a seated Senate leader has been defeated in a re-election bid.

# David Vitter made history as the first Republican to earn a Senate seat in Louisiana since Reconstruction. He gathered a decisive 51.6% of the votes in an unusual three-way "open primary," thereby avoiding a runoff election.

# In Ohio, Senator George Voinovich won a second term with a comfortable 63.9% of the votes.

Seven congressional seats went to Republicans whose websites and electronic communications campaigns were created by New Media. Far from shoe-ins, many of these pivotal races were highly competitive to historic proportions:

# Minnesota's Mark Kennedy emerged the victor after weathering fierce and blatant attacks from Michael Moore in "Fahrenheit 911."

# Geoff Davis of Kentucky faced down Nick Clooney, a former television host, whose campaign was heavily supported by friends of Clooney's son, Hollywood actor George Clooney.

# Robert Simmons and Heather Wilson won hotly contested battles in Connecticut and New Mexico, respectively.

# Joe Barton of Texas, Mike Turner of Ohio, and Kenny Hulshof of Missouri, rounded out the list of successful candidates who turned to NMC for Internet identity solutions.

In addition to its work for specific candidates, New Media created a number of electronic communications tools for the National Rifle Association, the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party. The efforts of these groups made a difference in strategic arenas all across the country. New Media also worked for two grassroots groups in Michigan and Ohio to successfully defend traditional marriage. These ballot initiatives to reaffirm the definition of marriage (as the union between one man and one woman) won by a wide margin in both states.

"We have really been blessed in this election cycle," Connell said. "This important string of victories for our clients is nothing short of phenomenal."

So EVERY ONE of their 2004 campaign clients came out a winner. This includes Bush. Thune ran against Tom Daschle who was heavily targeted by the Republicans and won in an "upset", Bush won with a surprising last minute turnaround, and David Vitter was the first Republican to earn a Senate seat in Louisiana since Reconstruction. So, out of 11 clients; a presidential candidate, 3 senatorial candidates, and 7 congressional candidates, every one of them won and a number of them seem to have overcome strong odds to do so. Hmmm... :tinfoilhat: I wonder if there's any connection between New Media Communications and any of the voting machine companies. It is interesting (and disturbing) that Ken Blackwell is also involved with this outfit!

But there's more. If you look at the whois for kenblackwell.com you'll see that it lists trespassers-w.net as the "Hosting Company". I think that means it's the company that physically hosts that IP address but I could be mistaken. In any case It's definitely connected somehow with kenblackwell.com and New Media Communications.

Doing a whois for trespassers-w.net we find that it is hosted at IP address 68.152.85.76. Checking out that IP address we find that it hosts 163 different domains including frist-08.com, gingrichforpresident.org, frist-gingrich.com, and frist-rice.com!!!

So it looks like they're already considering some possibilities. They seem to be considering trying to amend the constitution so Ahnuld can run at some point in the future. And Frist is planning on running and has some possible running-mates chosen. And it looks like these campaigns will be associated with a company that has an almost "magical" track record of winning against the odds. Hmmm... :tinfoilhat: Should we be disturbed by this?

13. Looks like LOTS of good info in that thread
that I can follow up on. Unfortunately I can't nominate it since it's been archived but I've got it bookmarked and other people can follow your link from this thread.

Once you start following IP addresses and contact emails it starts to become very easy to get lost in the forest and possibly miss the most important trees. I need to figure out some organized way to keep track of all of this stuff. Maybe a cork board, push pins, strings, and post it notes. :-)

76. Ojai, I just got around to really reading through that thread.
I had only glanced at it before. Holy Sh*t! There appears to be a connection with campaignsolutions.com, that's something I completely missed. To recap just a little of what's in that thread, Campaign Solutions may have been connected to attempts to hack into Virginia Schrader's campaign computers. Schrader was the Democratic candidate who ran and lost in the Pennsylvania Eighth Congressional District race against Republican Michael G. Fitzpatrick.
This is getting a little close to home, I'm in the Sixth district. The Sixth and Eighth both cover parts of Montgomery County PA. This is a little off topic but the Montgomery County Democratic headquarters had computers stolen a little while before the election (money on a desk was left untouched). These were laptops and probably couldn't be hacked into from the outside. As far as I know it was never proven that the theft was anything more than simple property theft, but it is curious that there were attempts to hack into networked computers and thefts of non-networked computers all within a few weeks span of time.

8. I'd appreciate any info you have on new media.
Being a software engineer, the whole whois and IP address angle just came naturally to me. There's still lots of interesting sleuthing to do on this from that angle.

11. New Media started in 1994....it also has GovTech Solutions...
from the above linked thread:

"Now Connell has been in bed with the Republicans for quite some time.

"Connell's company has a good reputation among GOP strategists because the former Capitol Hill staffer -- he worked on the elder President Bush's campaign in Iowa in 1988 -- understands politics and technology.

New Media, which started in 1994, designed Bush's site for his 2000 campaign after running a Web site for Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in 1998. It also has won awards for sites created for New York Mayor Michael
Bloomberg, Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., and Ohio Gov. Bob Taft.

GovTech Solutions, a spinoff from New Media Communications, was created in 2000 to produce sites for federal lawmakers and agencies. Its clients include 27 members of Congress from House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to Ohio Reps. Bob Ney and Dave Hobson."

30. An old copy of a program called superscan
I don't even know if I have the installables any more...

It allows ipscans including those nice ports to tell you what protocols the servers are running. I wonder about some of those ftp sites...

15. Brilliant! Obviously, no commitment on their part to any particular slate
Maybe just pay-off to various loyalists; or keeping their options open?

Going to frist-08.com, gingrichforpresident.org, frist-gingrich.com, and frist-rice.com, what you get is The Federalist Patriot, "the most widely read e-journal in America!" (I find that hard to believe.)

I agree, investigation of these relationships should be HIGH priority.

just in case they start changing things on ya. I'm not too familiar with them, but perhaps someone at raw story or the other news sites would help you with aspects of this? That is, if you need any help. You seem to be pretty on top of it so far. Seems like you've hit a big vein though. I can't wait to see where it'll take you.

17. Yea, I'm starting to wonder
if I should have gone public with it just yet. Although this may actually be a good time. A bunch of us can all start digging and have all kinds of info saved away before the people involved come back from their long weekend.
I've thought about places like raw story, dailykos, nashua advocate, etc. If anyone wants to send them a link to this thread please feel free to do so. I'm not sure if it rises to the level of news just yet. Although, come to think of it, Frist considering Rice and Gingrich as possible running mates does seem newsworthy. But I suspect it may be minor news compared to what may be out there.

Remember the letter he sent out that we ran, right after election? Check the address ... it gets better. Also, run Clermont BOE tracert. It becomes very pretty. Remember ze map? If not,

Who sent out a letter lala? Do you have a link to it?
That map is almost too much info to make any sense out of it, and to be honest a lot of the text on it is to small for my poor middle-aged eyes to read, even with my reading glasses. 8-) Can you just tell me whatever you think I should know for this research?
I know what a tracert is but I'm not sure what you mean when you say to run one on Clermont BOE. Do you have a URL or IP address for them?

23. Well
The only thing I can tell you is what I have already told you in my articles. I picked on strand on the SS scam letters and one strand to follow Baker/Carter story.

The other strands are based on sources (in map).

What I cannot tell you is:

1). What this whole thing means
2). What my own working theory is (as I am still working on it)
3). Key factions, as I see shifts happen with each addition to map

I can tell you:

1). to Read the SS scam letter research/articles
2). John Byrne's Eberle article
3). all of the Gannon articles

And tell me a theory you might have. As I have said, I don't know/facts/proof/information on what this "all" means. These are silos I think which make up a bigger framework at the moment, a framework that has to be explored. I don't know how this all works together, to what end, and such. Very complex.

So put glasses on, get coffee and don't sleep for six months and you will be exactly where I am now. But, since I am already there, why have you go through that nightmare? So start where I left off. I am in need of tips or something to get me back on this story. Sort of burnt out.

Whose SS scam letter articles? Yours? Do you have links? I'm not sure what you're referring to by "SS scam letter". I'm familiar with the whole "SS crisis" scam but I'm not aware of a particular letter.

>2). John Byrne's Eberle article
Do you have a link?

>3). all of the Gannon articles
There must be thousands of Gannon articles on the internet, you surely don't mean all of them. Do you have links to the ones you're referring to? Are they ones you wrote? Do you believe that Gannon has some direct ties to "all this"? I don't really see how Gannon ties in.

I don't really have any fully formed "theory". I've just been following some intriquing paths to see where they lead. When I suddenly came upon the Frist presidential campaign domains a bell went off in my head and I got up and started pacing around swearing for 5 or 10 minutes. I'm not even sure why, there've been plenty of rumors of his ambitions, so it wasn't really news. I think what bothers me is his connection with New Media and their "miraculous" campaign successes. I don't think I'm even remotely capable of saving the world from theocratic fascists, but apparently it's up to people like us. So I'll keep digging, and I appreciate any help I can get.

49. Okay, so I am to go Google all of my work... okay,
Here we go:

1). SS Scam Letters (blogcall has us explaining it, plus at least three of my articles on that):
Blogcall3 will feature John Byrne and Larisa Alexandrovna of Raw Story.com exposing how Tom Delay's extravagant trips were illegally funded by a "charity" called NCPPR... how NCPPR illegally raised its money by scamming the elderly with Social Security fright letters... and how rightwing lobbyist Jack Abramoff connects the two.

Raw Story is one of the leading independent news sources online and has broken numerous investigative stories. Raw Story is also working with bloggers and progressive radio to create a conduit of "quick response" news.

John Byrne is the founder and editor-in-chief of Raw Story Media and Larisa Alexandrovna is the news editor.

Background articles for this discussion are:
http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=527
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/index.php?p=134
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/index.php?p=138

Permanent BlogCall link: http://democrats.com/blogcall3

There are more articles, just google my byline and "scam letters"

I think the above includes Byrne's article. If not, google his byline and "Eberle"

2). The Gannon Info: this you will need to do, but this is what I suggest and in this order:
1).Media Matters first
2).Then find the intial Kos investigation posts
3).DU initial investigations posts
4).Then Americablog Hooker story
5).Then John Byrne's Gannon plagarisim articles
6).Eberle article (again)
7).Raw Story's FOIA on Gannon
8).My Baker Carter Commission article

Then go back and re-read my SS scam letter articles and then look at the map again. It will start to become a theory you can work with.

How is that for help?

46. I think it'll show
Edited on Sat May-28-05 04:22 PM by FreedomAngel82
it'll all go back to one person who could possibly either be inside the Bush camp or have connections to the Bush camp. I think once the whole story is done to send it to those people who have connections to Arnebeck. I think David Cobb is still working with him. He has an Email address on his website. I wouldn't be surprised if all these people work for the same person. The website's mentioned, Gannon, Blackwell. Now to find out who that one person is....

47. I think there's something there with Baker
Has anybody looked into him? Any "official" website's he might have? I think he was put on the election reform commission for some reason. I remember I watched a little bit of that and during the whole time when people were giving presentation's he had this smirk on his face like Bush gets when he knows he's getting away with something. He was also involved in the 2000 ordeal with Bolton. I do think there is something with Baker. He just pops out at me. Call it a "gut" feeling. Here's a site that has a good start of info. Somethings we already know though like with the BinLaden family and Carlyle Group.

"Jim Baker!" It's always the 1 you least suspect. Well, not that he's not a suspicion figure, but does remain out of the mentioning-norm, per se. He was "the man" for Poppa. Shrew lawyer like a fox.

And one always assumed Jimmy Carter was such a Christian. When I seen him elbowing Baker it made me sick.

22. Now that is odd...
I need to find my notes, but I had it routed through Texas. Mind you, this is a county in Ohio, local BOE office...I looked at other counties and they were not routing that way.

Mind you, I did the tracert and had to hand it to someone who could read this stuff as I am an idiot, but it was routed through Texas. I need to locate my notes on that.

See, this is why i need an admin damn it...someone to help with notes, transcribing, blah.

33. Clermont County OH
Hmmmm, the TX connection. Clermont uses ES&S opscans; ES&S is HQ'd in
Omaha, but IIRC they have a significant presence in TX. Is there a
way to trace a date/time stamp on those connections?
The "ring" counties around Hamilton - Butler, Warren, Clermont - had large Bush margins. Hamilton, Butler and Warren use punch cards, tabulated on ES&S machinery...

Chuck Hagel. He has intrest's in ES&S machine's and he is a very good friend of the Bush family (I believe twenty-something years). In his state they've never had a republican represenitive before and then he comes along and wins by a big margine. 80% of his votes were counted on an ES&S machine. I've heard rumors that Hagel was once going to be Bush's VP but for some reason (oil is my guess and the family business) Cheney became his VP. Does Hagel have any website's that could be looked into IP wise? Check out this article from CommonDreams from Thom Hartmann dealing with Hagel.

http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0131-01.htm

I didn't see any official site's for Hagel. :(

38. I'm not sure that the routing of data packets can prove much of anything.
I'm not a networking expert so someone who is might correct me on some of this but, AFAIK routing of data packets depends more on internet topology than on any business connections between servers. The routing is determined by network load, hardware problems, and where you're starting your tracert from. The last hop or two might tell you who their ISP or backbone provider is but I'm not even sure about that.

67. I'm certainly not trying to take anything away from DRM.
I just meant that they (DKos and ePluribus Media) have a pretty good expose machine going over there and might be helpful.

All credit is due DRM. No doubt about that!

On a side note, thank you for all the work you do with Raw Story. I totally respect and admire your work.

There's a ton of stuff to wade through and I hardly know where to start. I'm not looking for a career as an investigative journalist. I have a fulltime job and this is more of a hobby (albeit a hobby driven by what's happening to this country rather than by an interest in it as a pleasurable past time). If anyone wants to help they're more than welcome. If anyone has any more info they can add that will narrow my search or point me in a specific direction or directions, please post it or PM me. I posted this stuff with the intention of starting a collaboration, otherwise I'd have kept it to myself for now and kept digging in silence.

there doesn't seem to be anything obviously illegal. But maybe he can make some use of it. Thanks!
Did you email a link to this thread? The text by itself isn't as useful.

42. Thanks cyberpj
I have been finding some interesting, maybe even frightening, things. I just wish that I could believe that it will lead somewhere constructive. All the investigation of Gannon/Guckert appears to have lead nowhere.

Cripes, even the UK minutes and memos that spell out the Iraq thing in black and white don't seem to make a difference.

Even if I were to find something really really juicy, the media would ignore it or spin it and no one would pay any attention.

But that's what they want, isn't it? They want us to give up (and give in) in frustration. So we can't do that. We have to keep digging and snooping and contacting our representatives and the media.

64. You're right. And you're right.
It is frustrating - but we can't give up.

I've had really bad moments with frustration with the press but I hold onto the hope that once things start breaking we'll be right here with all sorts of details and info that may well become quite valuable then. The theory - once the cracks in the dam start breaking we'll have plenty to add to the deluge.

So take breaks when you need them but in the words of Springsteen - Never Surrender!

And you're appreciated for your expertise and hard work!

Peace.

but I haven't looked into it as yet.
Is that the Ann Coulter or someone else with the same name? I find it very hard to believe that you could get that kind of consensus on that madwoman. My impression is that a good proportion of the right is embarrased by her.

What is the significance of the patriotshop link?

73. I don't know if there is anything there.
Found out later about the Ann Coulter thing, that was funny, poor woman, having the same name as queen bitch.

The company doesn't seem to have any qualms about who their clients are.

They made the patriotshop site and the one for the Hamilton County Democratic Party http://www.hamdems.org">link
But maybe their founder is the Clint Curtis from Tennessee.

from their history page:

"Coptix's software development focus has been primarily on data-intensive systems, both desktop-based and web-based, on the Internet and corporate intranets. Over the years, Coptix has developed significant expertise in server configuration and security, Linux system/network software, high-performance email systems, and rapid-development prototyping techniques for websites."

But then again they probably have nothing to do with anything.

63. For all you conspiracy theorists...
Edited on Sun May-29-05 08:19 AM by drm604
True story - Last evening I was sitting at my computer preparing to do some more digging when suddenly I heard a loud noise outside and my electricity went out. A car had hit a utility pole a block away from me. This was a residential side street (25 mph limit) and a compact car snapped the pole completely off at its base and dragged it a full poles length before stopping. The airbags deployed and the woman driving it was taken away by ambulance. I was without power until around 8:00 am this morning. She must have been driving insanely fast to do what she did.
<conspiracy theory parody>
This was obviously a plot to slow down my efforts. Clearly, one of two things happened. Either the NSA remotely took over control of her car and rammed it into the pole at high speed, or the pole was taken out by a missile and a wrecked car was then placed at the scene before I arrived. These bastards will stop at nothing!
</conspiracy theory parody> :)

On edit: I just realized how callous this post makes me look. I do feel some concern over the plight of the driver of the car, but I guess it's mixed in with a bit of anger at her stupid behaviour which not only injured herself and inconvenienced a large number of people but could have killed or injured neighborhood children.

65. It's ok - detailed info digging can get to your brain -
While I'm sorry for any injuries the driver might have sustained I did enjoy the conspiracy theory parody.

And, FYI, I have actually downloaded some early election info and other 9/11 facts and info that I was afraid might disappear - and stored them at locations removed from my house. So I feel certain you're not alone with those kinds of thoughts.

66. You're right about it getting to your brain.
The stuff in the other thread about Harry Jackson and John Odoom just popped right out at me right at the start of my digging. The same thing is true for the find that started this thread. I think I just got lucky twice in a row. It's not always that easy. I've spent a couple of hours this morning slogging through a bunch of IP addresses. I've turned up a few weird rightwing websites (clintongunban.com LOL) but nothing that looks likely to lead to anything useful, and I'm starting to get very tired of it. While the power was out I was itching to get online and couldn't, but right at this moment I think I would rather be doing almost anything else!

:bounce:
My mind numbing search has hit on something else interesting. I've been following up on libertypirate's idea of checking out all of the addresses in the 68.152.85.* block. In other words, 68.152.85.1, 68.152.85.2, 68.152.85.3 etc.
Browsing address 68.152.85.34 brings up the website for the "American Center for Law & Justice" which has the domain name aclj.org. "ACLJ" is obviously a takeoff on "ACLU" and if you look at their site it does sort of look like ACLU's evil twin brother. They pretend to be interested in liberty and justice but of course are just another part of the echo chamber of rightwing talking points.
The whois for aclj.org shows a hosting company name of "cbn.org". The initials CBN immediately rang a bell... could it be... YES, it is! If you go to cbn.org you get redirected to www.cbn.com which is labled "Christian Broadcasing Network. The 700 Club With Pat Robertson." :bounce:
It appears that cbn.org hosts 145 domains. At least some of those domains may be in the 65.122.139.* block.
Lots more diggin to do...

Is there some way to get more recomendations for this or to get it on the front page?

75. A little backpedaling...
Looking at the whois for frist-08.com I notice that the registrant for that domain is something called "Publius Press". The same thing is true also true for gingrichforpresident.org, frist-gingrich.com, and frist-rice.com. Publius Press publishes wacky conspiracy theory books so I don't think they have anything to do with any official campaigns. It's possible that they were recruited to register the domains to give some deniability to the parties involved but that seems unlikely and I think this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. This teaches me a lesson about looking at things a little closer before going off on tangents.
However, I still think there are some other interesting connections to be pursued here. And it is odd that such an off the wall outfit like Publius should seem to be connected to far-right causes; but then again they're all pretty off the wall so maybe it's not that odd.
