Bush: Money Being Wasted on Unneeded Bases

By JENNIFER LOVEN
Associated Press Writer

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Speaking out for the first time in favor of controversial base closings, President Bush said Friday the nation is wasting billions of dollars on unnecessary military facilities and needs the money for the war on terrorism."

But this year...Bush is opening, what, 14 new 'enduring' a.k.a. permanent bases in Iraq, which he considers 'necessary military facilities'.

DUers can rightly ask, Wasted Bases in US vs. Productive bases in Iraq ? The Powell doctrine required a connection to US national security. I won't even mention the other parts of the Powell doctrine, since Bush has shit-canned them.

Someone make this connection please. And don't say 'we have to fight them there so we don't have to fight them here'. Or I'll slap you silly.

2. Ok. Let's see.
All those people who voted for Bush say that we need to pour money into the military industrial complex. Gee, it looks like he's doing that now. "Waste money on military bases." So, this is pouring money into the Miltary industrial Complex? You idiots.

3. When will they Change the Department of Defense to
the Department of Offense?

Nothing defensive about our posture these days.

Justification? War profiteering. I fail to see why permanent bases are needed to fight a ragtag band of terrorists. Would seem to be lots of overkill, unless the real pupose was to move $ from our Treasury to the supporters of the House of Bush-Cheney.

4. That transfer of wealth is one of the themes of Kevin Phillip's book
Wealth and Democracy. A great book.

"You can have great wealth or a democracy, but you cannot have both"--Louis Brandeis

Funny, David Brooks tried to paraphrase that in his column today where he says,

"we can have a culture war in this country or we can have war on poverty, but we can't have both".

Sneaky little buggers those neo-con columnists. They'll try to pad the pockets of the wealthy at the same time they call on us to 'join' the neocons in a war on poverty. Yeah, right. See "A Natural Alliance" NYTimes May 26, 2005

5. Alright, I don't understand this
Closing bases to save money while lowering taxes on the rich which could pay for these same military bases and other projects that are being given the axe.

Don't Tax and Still spend conservatives!

7. "All your base are belong to us." - BushCo Republicans
Watch. The Republican fat cats will make big bucks on this deal. And the soldiers and the cities they were stationed in will suffer.

8. Well, they've found another area to outsource now...
All the civilian jobs supporting the military here, will get to be done by cheaper labor overseas.

Wonderful...(sarcasm alert)
