My View On Embryonic Stem Cell Research
“Stem cell research facilitates life, not destroys it” --Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

"We would very much like to work with you to modify the current embryonic stem cell policy so that it provides this area of research the greatest opportunity to lead to the treatments and cures for which we are all hoping."-- Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME)

"I look in the mirror every day, barely recognize myself (Hodgkins Disease)," he said. "And not to have the availability of the best of medical care is simply atrocious."-- Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA)

"Embryonic stem cell research holds promise for America. It holds promise today, and will hold promise tommorrow when over 100 million Americans are cured of disease and illness."-- Representative Mike Castle (R-DE)

"Mr. President, we write to urge you to expand the current federal policy concerning embryonic stem cell research."-- Senator John McCain (R-AZ)

"Mr. President, please lift the ban on embryonic stem cell research."-- First Lady Nancy Reagan

"To reduce this issue to an abortion issue is a horrible injustice to 100 million Americans suffering the ravages of diabetes, spinal cord paralysis, heart disease, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, cancer, MS , Lou Gehrig's disease and other fatal, debilitating diseases,"-- Representative Jim Ramstad (R-MN)

"Embryonic stem cells have the potential to be used to treat and better understand deadly and disabling diseases and conditions that affect more than 100 million Americans, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and many others. We urge you Mr. President to put the best interests of the American people as your top priority." Senator Susan Collins (R-ME)

I think the definition serves the right cause's case........

Stem cells are primal, undifferentiated cells which have the unique potential to produce any kind of cell in the body. Medical researchers believe stem cells have the potential to change the face of human disease by being used to repair specific tissues or to grow organs.

Human Life? No.

Human Life? No.

Human Life? No.

Human Life? Yes.

Everybody is for this, except the President of the United States. The bipartisan support derives from Born again Christians, liberals, Catholics, Atheists, pro-life, conservatives, Agnostics, Evangelicals, pro-choice, fundamental Christians, Jews... so why not invest in science? Why not take advantage of what God has blessed us with-- the obvious ability to cure and heal the sick. 74% of America backs embryonic stem cell research. But a stroke of a pen looks to stand in the way of the cure of millions and millions of Americans. I've said it many times and this time I will say it louder... George, please?!?!

1. This is actually an interesting topic to me...
"Everybody is for this, except the President of the United States. "

He's not against it...he's feeding the extreme right wing.

Understand his motives are political, purely.

This one will backfire on him.

The reason it passed in the house is because some of these guys need to get re-elected in 06, and they understand the public is behind this.

I hear they have a supermajority in the senate if he vetos it...

2. Of Course Its Politics
Leaving my great-grandmother suffering and being unable to know her grandson's name isn't politics. Thats my side, and I'm sticking to it.

4. But they don't have one in the House. I think it will be great if he vetos
is and the House can not overturn his veto. We could win quite a few seats that way.

5. Good post BamaLefty
Someday down the road people are gonna look back and say: they tried to stop this?

All throughout history there have been those who stood in the way of scientific break through. Indeed, people were gainst in vitro fertilization to procreate when it first came out, now its standard.

9. Are you "Pro-Wheel" or "Anti-Wheel"?
That's about what the argument should be.

11. This isn't even a bipartisan issue--this is a LIFE and a MORAL issue.
As a long, longtime insulin dependent diabetic, I hate to see this turned into a political issue.

Why in God's name is it being argued on the House and Senate florrs? It's insanity to have to have it legislated!

It's completely ridiculous that it has become a political issue (and I have to say, shame on some DUers who are seeing it that way).

This is a morality issue, and politics should have nothing to do with it.

Fifty Republicans in the House recognized that, 14 Dems DIDN'T.

Eff politics--I want to be healthy.
