Now that the Iraq war has turned into the debacle we all knew it would, now that over half of Americans believe that the DictatorTot lied his ass off to get us there, now that the economy is not really going anywhere as promised as a result of the tax cuts for the rich, now that virtually nothing Bush** has done can be really called a success, they are waking up.

The high price of gas and its resulting drag on the economy is most likely the main reason. But I personally believe that Bush** has lost credibility, the benefit of a doubt, with the American people. And once you lose that, it is nearly impossible to get it back.

We are already past the zenith of Republican power. They've already shown the American people that they giving them power is like giving a teenaged boy a bottle of whiskey and the car keys.

7. The optimistic part of me says...

...that they have just hit the wall of American public's willingness to move toward Theocracy. That movement has been the cornerstone of their support from the fundies, so they got themselves backed into a corner: stop moving the country toward Theocracy, and they lose their staunchest base (glance at FR and you'll see what I mean -- today I saw one of them pledge to vote for Hillary, LOL); keep moving toward theocracy and they lose everyone else (the congress members know that and that's why they aren't going along with Chimpy's latest shennanigans).

The Shiavo intervention scared the living sh*t out of many moderate Republicans who didn't realize how damn intrusive and dangerous the Rapturist Right is. It was a HUGE wakeup call and one that caused the usually disinterested moderates to pick up the phone and call their representatives. This emboldened the moderate Republicans to stop enabling the theocratic neocon agenda. They're still taking baby steps right now but at least they're on their feet. IMHO

Soldiers killed everyday, the Deficit, touching the 3rd rail--Social Security, the job economy, continuing rising cost of health care and prescription druges, fear of the extreme Religious Wrong, the Stem cell issue, GOP using words like Nuclear option, Rice's saber rattling all over the world, giving the palistanian a lot of money (media doesn't like that), using Laura Bush until she's used up, press conferences that don't resemble Press conferences, Gas prices still high even after holding hands with Saudi Prince, busy riding a tricycle while your wife is being evacuated, showing Saddam in his underwear, not catching Osama Bin Laden, lying to the American people, and last, but not least.....the Michael Jackson defense has rested and American Idol is over.

11. Quickly unravelling

The moral high ground that was ceded to these hypocrites has been lost due to love of gold and lust for power. Liberals and progressives everywhere must press their congressional representatives DAILY with the the evidence of immorality that is mounting against this corrupt administration and make them fearful to be allied with it. Remember, the poll-takers rule at re-election time and if these cowards wish to remain in power (and I am fairly sure that they do) they will abandon this sinking ship and put political distance between themselves and the current hijackers of the Republican party.
