After watching Nightline last night, I can see why she's known as the "dim bulb of the Senate." Besides that cloying voice, I hated when she kept saying, "President Bush's outstanding choices".

Please, is there a Democrat in Maine that can make her disappear?

1. She speaks like she has peanut butter in the brain
Edited on Tue May-24-05 06:11 PM by PurityOfEssence
She makes Lorraine Bracco sound like the Fed Ex man. Sy Sperling of the Hair Club for Men has a better sense of cadence. Most stentorian fundamentalist preachers sound like an auctioneer in comparison. She's never ventured beyond largo in her life, and staccato is a foreign concept. May she suck up to her fearless leader even more; his choices are cold, dark and eerie.

Reid had a good line about hoping that the only scary people in black robes should be Darth Vader. She is an extreme embarrassment, and her cohort Snowe, although blessed with reasonable circuitry, is not much better.

This is the media world, folks, and she's a dreadful camera presence. She should be given VERY long clips to fully display the soporific effect.

What with the economic hurt ladled out to her state by the monarchists, she should be a goner. Acid rain's on a comeback, thanks to the "smear skies" policies, and hopefully someone will rub her nose in it.

People like this shouldn't be given a free pass, she's been an enabler for the forces of economic monarchy and nothing more than a twit beyond that.

3. Unfortunately she's around until '08
We had a really good shot at beating her in '02 with Chellie Pingree but we failed. Susie is annoying at the very least.

There are very vocal Republicans in Maine who are furious at her and Olympia. They want to run someone against Snowe next year to get her out of the Senate. I agree with their goals.

5. I think that the Susie is there for a long time.
Chellie v Susie

Chellie in fantastic! After that woman knocked herself out for the "drug bill" the people of Maine passed up their best chance at excellent representation.

As for Susie, although I've heard it rumored that she may run for governor, I think she will be in the senate for as long as she wants to be.

Olympia is up in '06, but unless she retires: forgidda bout it!

Ya know what I was thinking about last night? If a Dem. female were to keep her last name after marrying, the wingnutz would go crazy, so why does Olympia get a pass? (rhetorical question) And "no" I don't care if Olympia changes her name; I was just musing on the hypocrisy. Besides, Olympia Snowe is a cool name--no pun intended.

6. It boggles the mind that liberal New Englanders help keep Bill Frist
in power. Its just because people are too uninformed or unconcerned to realize the impact of their votes.

8. Actually, Maine was a red state for a long time. And as far as Snowe
goes, we keep her because she has seniority on the Hill. That's the main reason for most people, I think.

14. You'd be surprised at how many conservatives live here. We have
a long history of moderate conservatism here. It's the Yankee thing to do, I guess.

But we're more blue now for 2 reasons: 1) Lots of Dem candidates are not that far off from the GOP candidates that have traditionally been favored here, 2) our progressive strongholds are growing.

15. Isn't there also a pretty strong libertarian streak up there...
Particularly in the northern half of the state? Libertarians have far more in common with Democrats than Republicans but they're slow to realize it.

Don't get me wrong. My senators are Trent Lott and Thad Cochran-I'm a native of Hellississippi. But we expect assholes as senators . You guys in Maine have had some real class acts in my lifetime. I could even accept Snow and Collins but they help keep Frist and McConnell in power and that makes them bad people in my book. Guilt by association is unfortunate, but necessary in these awful times.

18. Snowe is a mixed bag. Some days I love her (She's stood up
against ** here and there, and she is working hard on the floating air pollution coming in our way from the MidWest) but other times she sides with the GOP on what ought to have been a no-brainer NO.

She spoke to a Girl Scout gathering when I was very young. That made an impression on me. Of course this was back when she was further to the left.

As far as Muskie goes, my family has a personal grudge against him regardless of his political stance. My grandfather had invented a water skimmer for removing oil from water and went to him to ask for help in getting it patented. Muskie got mad and told him to stop bothering him with useless thigns (or something to that effect). We never patented it and one of the big oil companies came along and patented their own version of it. (I'll have to ask my dad for the details. This is just my own vague recollection of what he'd told me about it.)

Oh and as to Libertarians, there probably are some. Mainers are tight-fisted with their $ but somewhat relaxed on some social things. Except for the fundagelical churches, of course.

9. Mind=thinking
My neighbors are great people, but when it comes to politics, I am amazed at the reasons or non-reasons on which they base their vote.

The idea of the "agenda" being set by the majority is waaaaaaay beyond them. That's not a "put down" just the facts.

Maine is very dark purple.

Outside of the Peoples' Republics of Cambridge and Amherst, there is not too much liberal real estate.

11. She's an idiot.. Outstanding choices from Bush?
Both she and Snowe acted as if they were surprised when Maine got gangraped on the base closure list. I voted for Chellie Pingree when I could a few years ago against Collins... I think Snowe's seat is up in '06, but as mentioned earlier, we'll have to wait until 2008 for Collins. (And I'm praying to God that I'll be out of Maine by either of these races.)

19. Ugh,
when I write letters to my senators and congressman, I always get back a long, detailed, logical letter from Representative Tom Allen and two, short, mish-mash, nonsensical fence-sitting letters from Senators Snowe and Collins. Every time I read their letters, the only thing I ever think is -- WTF did that letter just say? Pingree would have been great.
