Waxman’s GRMO Pushing Hard for Hearing on DFI Mismanagement
24 May 2005
The Bush administration has mismanaged billions of dollars of Iraqi oil proceeds, while crying foul over the UN Oil for Food program. Last Tuesday I reported here that Henry Waxman had called for hearing to investigate “abuses in the Development Fund for Iraq , the successor to the Oil for Food program run by the Bush Administration.”
Yesterday the IAMB (International Advisory and Monitoring Board) released several audits of the Development Fund for Iraq (DFI), the Oil for Food Program's successor. The audits evidently suggest considerable mismanagement of DFI funds on the part of the Bush administration.
Here’s the latest statement from Henry Waxman on the DFI mismanagement:
New findings from the International Advisory and Monitoring Board raise growing concerns over how the Bush Administration mismanaged billions of dollars of Iraqi oil proceeds. The international auditors are questioning why the Bush Administration sought to conceal over $200 million in Halliburton overcharges. They also identify serious new worries about possible misappropriation of oil revenues and further violations of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1483.
