Newsweek-- the permanent scapegoat ?
First General Myers says Newsweek had nothing to do with the Afghanistan riots, then Hamid Karzai says the same thing. In fact, the protests didn't even relate to the Koran-- they related to national reconciliation issues.

But that has not stopped our glorious leaders and their shills from continuing their Newsweek blame-fest. Now, we find that Newsweek is responsible for the protests against Laura Bush in the holy lands.

Oh, if only Newsweek had not run that little story! Then everyone would love us again! :sarcasm: Nice ladies like Laura Bush, whose only crime is promoting American goodwill, would not be "beseiged" by anger-crazed Muslims.

Sheesh. Give this scapegoat a rest and find a new one!

US First Lady Besieged by Protests in Jerusalem

Jerusalem
22 May 2005

Laura Bush has visited Israel and the West Bank, her latest stops on a Mideast tour aimed at promoting American goodwill.

Laura Bush

Laura Bush got a hot welcome from Palestinian Muslims when she visited the golden Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem's Old City, the third-holiest place in Islam.

"How dare you come in here!" shouted Palestinian hecklers. "Why are you hassling Muslims? You do not belong here!" they said. Israeli police formed a human chain to keep the protesters away.

Ironically, the first lady went to the mosque to show that America is a tolerant country. But anti-American sentiment has been running high in the Middle East since Newsweek magazine reported that U.S. soldiers had desecrated the Koran at a detention facility. Newsweek later retracted the report.

1. I pray that I will wake up and the last 5 years will have only been
a bad nightmare.

2. I just pray that in 5 years we're waking up AT ALL!
I agree with Seymour Hersh-- this country has been taken over by an extremist coup, and we're potentially headed for a period of devastating, endless war.

Maybe we'll live through it but maybe we won't.

3. Nope. The nightmare continues.
Americans will not be able to visit Muslim countries safely for the foreseeable future. And I'm not talking Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia -- I'm talking Indonesia, Malaysia, and the southern Philippines.

People who hate us enough to die so long as they can take some Americans with them (e.g., 9/11 terrorists) are making that choice daily. Westerners and Americans will be targets for random violence for years or decades -- until something changes substantially.

I don't pretend that there wasn't a well of hatred prior to 9/11 -- there was, much of it fostered by our foolish and wicked policies toward Israel/Palestine (the guilt for which is shared by many presidential administrations), as well as our economic bullying, support of despotic regimes in Arab countries generally, and the fact that the free and easy ways of Western culture are threatening to fundamentalist Islam.

But the arrogant fools who took over our government in 2000 have done everything in their power to fan the flames of hate, even to the point of feeding news organizations provocative stories that they can turn around and deny -- even though the truth doesn't change. (Does anyone here NOT believe that Newsweek was set up by Administration stooges?)

I don't know about you, but this waking nightmare is much worse than anything I've ever experienced in a dream.
