Oh, great joy and wonder. The moderates have gathered in Washington and announced a group hug. The Constitution is saved, Wal-Mart will still open tomorrow morning and CBS will be able to air another few rounds of golf. Hallelujah. America is moving foward.

That little lovefest tonight should have been scrapped and replaced by a Democrats-Only press conference where they announced intentions to stand their ground against the lying Neocon bullies. A few, simple flip charts could have done the trick in mapping out the abuse of power and a few choice words could have stated that we`re not going to take it any more.

But, no. A new poll came out. Americans are upset with Congress. They want unity. They want to feel the love. Presto! Just like magic. Senators find their way to their friends across the aisle. The old, "I yield to the gentleman from the great state of...." trick. What a heart-grabber...the comity, the mutual respect.

Are they kidding? After what Republicans have put us and the rest of the country through, Democrats should have shown up with some steely determination and a pile of orange jumpsuits.

10. Republicans are not looking this gift in the mouth
They will use it to try to win more seats in 2006.

We gave them everything they wanted. They get their judges, motivate their base, and look moderate to the mainstream voters.

The gift we gave them will keep on giving.

12. not me,
I'm thrilled! Thrilled to see three corporatist "judges" who had already been duly and fairly SHITCANNED get yet another chance at lifetime appointments.

Future scenario: Noxious judicial nominee. Threatened filibuster. Return of nuclear option.

The tacit agreement of the "compromise":

We won't use the nuclear option if you don't try to filibuster. We get three of our previously shitcanned nominees up for (yet) another run. You get to keep the IDEA of the filibuster.

Disgusting and pathetic.

4. What the hell good is "steely determination"
if you don't have the votes? It is as simple as that. Standing your ground and losing is still losing. Is losing the only leverage the minority has in the senate really what you would have preferred, so long as we "went down fighting"? Idealism is great, but in politics you have to have the votes, otherwise you and your ideals get handed your lunch.

5. So you prefer the BOHICA option to standing your ground
Many people applauded Neville Chamberlain when he returned from his meeting with Hitler at Munich because war had been averted.

This deal is our Munich!

6. Oh please.
I prefer to live in reality. Reality is, if you don't have the votes you lose. The is nothing to be gained by standing your ground if you don't have the votes to win. I am all for not compromising principles, but I fail to see what principle was compromised. We didn't want those judges confirmed, yes, and now they will be. But had the Dems stood their ground, they would have been confirmed anyway, and they would have lost the right to filibuster in the process. But hey, they could be proud that they "stood their ground" and lost.

8. I prefer fighting the good fight and if we lose, at least we fought.
Giving up without a fight is still a LOSS!

GET IT?!?!?!

At least if you fight there's a 50-50 chance you could win. If you give up with out a fight, or don't fight at all, you lose, guaranteed 100% of the time.

We gave up before the fight started.

Again.

11. The right to filibuster is now an illusion
They can take it away any time they like now. We rolled over once, we'll roll over again.

We didn't win a damn thing.

13. you can lose standing on principle
Edited on Tue May-24-05 07:54 AM by GreenArrow
or you can lose by compromising it.

We now get to choke on the "judges" we already turned down and we lose any sort of moral standing on the issue. Let the Dems try to use the filibuster and see what happens. We'll be back to square one.

Tacit agreement of the "compromise":

"We wont use the nuclear option if you don't filibuster. And we'll take these three "judges", thank you very much."

15. I do not agree!
Standing your ground and losing is INFINITELY better then bending over tongue to boot and losing anyway... The Republicans will NEVER keep their word on this. Their idea of "extreme" circumstance doesn't even come from the same language we speak! When the time comes to remove the filibuster there will be no coverage by any media, it will be a non issue because some pedophile will be on trial or whatever.

We already had the filibuster they can't "grant" us that. All they had was a threat. If we believe that the "moderate" Republicans would not have voted with us...why do we call them moderate? Why do we trust them at all? Where is the evidence that they ever vote with us on the final vote? All we have left as a party during a time when people are dying because of our Government IS our conscience. At some point the game is over and we speak to our great grand children the TRUTH!

7. Facing a dying nation
We starve-look
At one another
Short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation
Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes

Somewhere
Inside something there is a rush of
Greatness
Who knows what stands in front of
Our lives
I fashion my future on films in space
Silence
Tells me secretly
Everything
Everything
