Not that I care what "dead intern" thinks, but if somebody as right wing as him is saying it, then the RWers must be PISSED.

1. It is
Cheney doesn't get his Senate. Revisiting this will be a problem--for their side.

3. What a crock
of sh!t.

The Democrats were manuevered into this position to get a couple of really radical nominees through.

It will happen all over again, and again, and again...

8. Amazing what push overs the democrats are
When the democratic senators picked Reid -- I left the democratic party and I've seen NO reason to change that decision.

The democrats are a bunch of ball-less -- spine-less wimps.

No wonder the majority of Americans have no idea what happened OR why this was important.

The GOP got through two of the most extreme wing nuts -- and they will do it again and again and again and again.

And some democrats will still be saying "we won".

11. They haven't gotten ANYTHING through yet
They haven't gotten voted in, they are just going to get a vote. We shall see.

23. Then where else is there?
I'm staying a Republican for my own reasons... regardless of how betrayed I feel.

Abandonning your principles because your party has strayed just means you must make a point of reminding them where they ought to stand.

That's what I do...

Or am I just too egocentric?

5. depends on your taste
if your extreme right or left it's a loss. If your a centrist it's a win.

And I support the Dems on this one.

14. I'm not extreme left or a centrist
just left of center

I guess that would make me a moderate.

And I am fairly happy.

20. I think it's more like:
If your Extreme to the right you've lost big time!
If your a Centrist Repug you've won a minor victory!
If your a Centrist Dem you've won big time!
If your more to the left you may have won a minor victory! (But it ultimately Depends on what happens with the supreme court)

24. How is it a win for centrists?
Three far right whack jobs will be confirmed without traditional checks and balances. Everything else stays the same.

Seems like a win for the far right, only not as big as they were hoping for.

6. It is a victory for us
What diod we lose?

Bush was going to ALL these nominees through if we didn't get a compromise.

And now, there is a big hole being torn in the GOP.

They keep beating us by looking at the big picture, while we fight each battle day by day. In the big picture, we won a significant victory tonight.

To the average, moderate voter watching this situation, we are the reasonable party of compromise and respect for tradition, while they are the party of disruption and extremism.

9. agreed
One of the most important factors about this deal is how this is presented to the American public. People like to side with winners. We did win one tonight, and may be starting to look better and better to many. We've all read the stories on DU of repubs defecting from their party already, because of the far-right-fringe's control of the GOP.

16. And now some of the far right fringe say they are leaving
because they wanted a total win, and didn't get it. They wanted the filibuster out of the way for SCOTUS, and that didn't happen. They wanted us squashed, but we still stand.

19. The freepers who leave will come back....they have short
memories. They will be spun. The more the Scarboroughs say it's a win for us, the angrier they will be and they will ultimately go after any Dem in sight, no matter how angry at the Repugs they seem tonight.

We are still the enemy.

Edited on Mon May-23-05 09:19 PM by Zen Democrat
That he's writing off those votes for his 2008 campaign -- and that Frist cemented his religinut (my word) base.

But for now, anyway, the religinuts are thinking Frist was a weak leader.

Interesting play going on here. I think the Dems should just sit back and watch the Republican internecine fight.

17. I don't think Frist cemented the religinuts
They didn't have Justice Sunday for a compromise. They WANTED the nuke. They wanted total victory, and to see us squashed. We did not oblige.

That's what Frist was selling. That's what the religinuts were buying. They got jyped.
