Will this be streamed? Have no TV cable here.

I don't like it either. If Owen is approved (in spite of being corrupt and extreme) the Democrats rolled over. A promise not to change the rules is worth no more than the rules now, since Republicans can claim that Democrats broke their vague promise.

PISSED OFF.

So what do the dems get out of this deal? It doesn't sound like a compromise it sounds like a total cave-in.

I don't see what we're getting out of this under than a postpinement of the inevitable replay of this whole process as son as one of the other judges comes up

FUCK YOU DEMOCRATS! YOU JUST SOLD OUT DEMOCRACY. GOOD WORK.

Rest assured, every supreme court nominee Bush puts forth will present "extraordinary circumstances".
Zeke's | Email | Homepage | 05.23.05 - 8:10 pm | #

But couldn't all seven judges that have been resubmitted be considered "extraordinary circumstances." Isn't that why they got shot down in the first place?
mer | Email | Homepage | 05.23.05 - 8:10 pm | #

I don't like it either

1. You needn't go to Atrios to see all that. Just check DU.
However, to DU's credit, I haven't seen the word "cocksuckas" used... yet.

5. Because they saw McCain and other R moderates take a big bite out of Frist
But since on DU every Republican is a bitter fascist Bush loving repug we fail to see the divisions in the Republican party.

This is a VERY BIG crack in the republican party. Now Bush and the Religious Right nut jobs will have to fight both the Democrats and the emerging Moderate Republicans (who were sick of getting steamrolled for 'party unity') to get anything done.

Divide and Conquerer.

To force the split in the Republicans we had to sacrifice a few judicial nominations.

I'll give up 3 or 4 judges to get strong bipartisan allies to save social security.

3. Because we rolled over. We made a "deal" I don't think it was necessary.
But whatever. Done is done.

4. Dems Cave Again
When the White House says this is a postive development and like the deal, you know who got the short end of the stick.

8. Do you think they would admit they didn't like it?
What they say means nothing.

9. No, but it is not too difficult to see who came out ahead on this deal.

6. And here I thought WE were the Dem equivalent of Free Republic
I guess that honor goes to Atrios.

DailyKos thinks we won, on the other hand.

11. SERIOUSLY interesting take from Kos on DeWine's comments:
DeWine: "Some of you who are looking at the language may wonder what some of the clauses mean. The understanding is – and we don’t think this will happen – but if an individual senator believes in the future that a filibuster is taking place under something that’s not extraordinary circumstances, we of course reserve the right to do what we could have done tomorrow which is to cast a yes vote for the constitutional option."

Kos: "The Democratic line is that these Republicans, who are under excrutiating pressure and may face Dobson-backed primary challengers as a result, are saying this for domestic consumption. That the reality of the agreement doesn't give the Republicans this much leeway to toss it aside. But still, it's the most worrisome part of this agreement.
Remember, Republicans have a 10-seat majority in the Senate. Given the alternative -- a Dobson controlled Supreme Court nominee -- this is a huge victory."

The agreement is clear in what it says. The Dems know it.

It's just RW SPIN for their sheeple. They can't do shit, and they know it.

7. Funny.
If you substitute every occurrence of "Democrat" with "Republican", it sounds just like Freeperville tonight.

12. We did.
They rolled over. Look, it was all the Centrists who are always prepared to give ground to the Right. Meanwhile McCain preserved the fillibuster future option for the Right while not forfeiting a thing. It was an end game manuever.

13. When someone wants you to eat 5 tubs of shit
agreeing to eat 2 of them is not a good compromise.
