Did they leave out the capital letters D and U in this George Galloway story in today's Sunday Times:

May 22, 2005

Big bucks beckon Galloway
Jason Allardyce Nick Fielding

GEORGE GALLOWAY is to cash in his new-found status as the poster boy of the anti-war movement in America with plans for a speaking tour that could earn him a six-figure sum.

He has returned to Britain from his barnstorming appearance on Capitol Hill with what his associates claim is a firm offer of a two-week lecture series in America.

One friend said that Galloway could now set himself up as a successor to Michael Moore, whose documentary, Fahrenheit 911, became a lightning conductor for enemies of President George W Bush.

The Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow is also likely to boost his profile in America by fitting in a series of free events, addressing opponents of the occupation of Iraq.

“I think in the United States the ground was tinder dry, waiting for a spark like this. The democratic underground is alive with the transcript and video screening of this event (with the senators), so there are a lot of people in the United States who are very happy about it,” he said.

2. I don't think he meant DU. He just meant Democrats have been hiding under
underground because we have no leaders. I believe that is about to change - big time.

6. Yes, this IS a reference to 'DU' as he said just two days ago
that this site was known for its astute 'political acumen'. It is clearly ANOTHER reference to this place, IMO. The copy editor is in error.

Posted by Caledonian in a GDP thread about Galloway on CSPan 2

"He was on BBC Scotland this evening talking about.....this website (reason I came on).

It was put to him that only the Arab world took any notice of what he said, and that everyone in Britain had largely ignored him (not true, the interviewer was trying to rile him). In reply George said that he was deeply moved by all the e-mails he had received especially from the states. He then mentioned that the greatest support had come from the members of Democratic Underground, a group of politically active Democrats noted for their political acumen.

Incidentally, I watched the committee hearing the other day and thought that it was one of the most entertaining things I have seen on TV for quite some time."
