CONGRATS! I was really impressed with the bidding.

(On Edit: It was a letter not an email. I must have been hallucinating when I first posted. :))

1. Link didn't work -- I think it has expired since the item has been sold.

2. Link worked for me-that rocks! And nice to see
that these freeper notes ironically inspired optimism.

3. Me, too
And that was just a brilliant thing to do.

Pity the Freeper who did that won't ever know ...........

The Freeper certainly showed himself to be an ignorant dolt. It would seem that education is a dirty word to them!

I hope the bastard that wrote the messages has pneumonia from standing in the rain writing all that hateful stuff.

7. Thanks, but the chief of police in W. Bridgewater thinks it was stupid
Bigotry a loser in battle of the note
By Mike Melanson, Enterprise correspondent

With the help of eBay, Ian Brumberger turned a profanity-laced and bigoted note left on his windshield into a donation to an advocacy group.

<snip>

Last week, the Brockton man posted the note, peppered with obscenities and threats, on eBay, with a $5 minimum bid. On Wednesday, the message sold for $76 to the highest of 21 bidders.

Brumberger, 35, said the auction proceeds would benefit Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays, or PFLAG, a national support, education and advocacy group.

<snip>

But West Bridgewater Police Chief Donald Clark said anyone who encounters something similar should call the police. "That's a hate crime. You're aiming at a specific group of people. (But) the hard part would be tracking down the people who did it," Clark said.

The police chief said he questioned the eBay auction because it draws more attention to the inflammatory statements in the note. "It's a touchy subject," he said. "I wouldn't have done that. Put it that way."

14. If you HAD contacted the police..
Edited on Sat May-21-05 09:06 AM by Kingshakabobo
If you HAD contacted the police, they probably would have dismissed it and said they didn't have time for such petty matters.

Chief Wiggum: "Can't you people take the law into your own hands? I mean, we can't go around "policing" the entire city!"

On edit: Fantastic job! by the way...:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Saw a post about the note a while ago but who knew someone could be this smart!
I bet there are lots of people out there who feel so lost politically and all that entails, and have not found DU yet.

Funny shit.
