I just called Domenici's office & I am SHAKING WITH ANGER
I read via a Buzzflash link that Domenici back in June 94 told Roll Call that he was against any end to the filibuster rule.

I just called Domenici's office here in Las Cruces and the secretary was just pulling off his press release with all the crap about how he's always believed every nominee deserves an up and down vote. Just spouting the official "message."

I told this woman that he had flip flopped on his 94 position (as recounted in the linked article up at BF) and that he was obviously no longer working for the people of this country. That I had lost all respect for him (not that I had that much) and that I would never vote for a Republican again (I've voted in the distant past for moderate Repugs). I said I didn't know how they all could live with themselves.

She hung up. Typical, what LOVELY people....

I am absolutely TOTALLY ENRAGED. My "public servant" at work....for me....not.

1. Apparently it is acceptable now a days
for Senate staffers to be rude. They don't have to talk to anyone who is telling them anything that they don't want to hear. I've been hung up on by Bill Nelson's staff and Tom Delay's staff. Consider it a badge of honor, you obviously hit a soar spot.

6. Get others from New Mexico to call
New Mexico is going to get bluer as people are forced to leave California due to the high costs of living. Let him know that his flip flopping and lies will not save him even if the Republican try to rig the voting again in New Mexico.

See, that's what all of these guys are counting on: That there will be no more honest elections. But, there is a way around the rigged voting machines. We can defeat them and beat them at their own game.

Don't just be mad. Get everyone you know to call and be mad. The senator has local offices. It doesn't need to be a long distance call. Picket the office nearest him tomorrow. Write letters to the newspapers.

This is our country. Our whole democracy is at risk here.

Don't be complacent!

You letter is best short and simple. I'll even help you write it.

Just do it! Make these people pay with their jobs.

15. Forgive me for being glib
But my answer was the answer and if you are from Oregon then you probably can figure it out. Because Rove is NOT from Oregon, I don't think they'll figure it out until it is too late.

Also, tomorrow will be a meeting in Sacramento to start the rigging of elections in California. That is actually our best hope because if they try they will be unmasked and the whole house of cards will come tumbling down!

What an East Coast rain we are getting in North Portland right now! It is as if God is even angry at Smith for being such an ass!

23. Absentee ballots
basically that's how they vote in Oregon. It is a real paper ballot. You don't have to stand in the rain in long lines for hours to vote. You can vote at your leisure. It is the Oregon way.

The only problem is what I found when I was volunteering in Florida: those people most likely to vote Democratic were not sent their absentee ballots. However, next time we will be prepared. If most Democrats vote via absentee ballot then it will be the Republicans standing in the rain and the voting machines will not know how many have voted for Democrats for sure so they can't start deducting votes from the Democratic candidate, especially if there are no votes for the Democratic candidate on the machine.

We don't have to have verified voting. We only need to exercise our right to a paper ballot and we can do that by voting on an absentee ballot.

32. Do you hand count those OR absentee ballots?
Here in my FL county, all the votes including absentee ballots are run through an optical scanner and counted using a DIEBOLD GEMS AccuVote tabulator. Which means no matter how I vote, it can be messed with.

9. That is what bothered me the most about accusations about Kerry flip-flops
I mean, wtf?

How do Republicans get away with it.

They shouted flip-flopper all day and night up to the election, and the media just happily repeated it.

But they are constantly showing glaring hypocracy and direct conflicts with previous positions, and no one ever calls them on it!

12. I called Mary Landrieu's office today
& when I asked what her position is on the filibuster issue, I was told, "Mary hasn't taken a position on it yet." Now that's a Democratic senator (who will be running for re-election in '06, I might add).

It's irritating enough to know the Repugs are rubberstamping this issue, but when a Democratic senator is complaisant about such a vital issue for the sake of being re-elected in a red state, it's enfuriating. Anyone who doesn't value the principle of filibusters in the Senate doesn't recognize the danger our democracy is in with the Republicans' radical power binge going on.

18. Wasn't Smith an ass on CSPAN
This state is only going to get more blue. The vote can't be rigged in Oregon. In fact, with Google going into The Dallas area, even that Republican stronghold will fall. Smith is simply silting his throat.

I called right after he spoke on CSPAN and called out his lies and misdirections, but the "I've got an advanced degree" guy who answered the phone (I out-degreed him, though) claimed that Smith did not lie or misrepresent. I guess Kerry was right in his CSPAN speech, say a lie enough and it becomes the truth.

Gordon Smith...we will NOT forget!

21. Consider your back patted.
GOOD FOR YOU for calling them.

I caught part of the GOP senators' press conference on the filibuster, in which Grassley and Stevens and the like bloviated about how failure to vote on a nominee was unprecedented, and besides, the whole thing is so unfair. Where were these clowns when Clinton's judicial nominees waited years for a hearing, not even a vote, and even Rehnquist said the Senate wasn't confirming enough judges?

So good for you. Hold his feet to the fire.

22. What esp. pisses me off is that I had called well over a month ago on this
and got this story about how he hadn't decided and the woman said she really thought that all of them should go home and stop acting like high school kids!!!

And that he had ALWAYS worked for the people of the state...blah blah blah...I said at the time that he's had a long career, he's close to retirement, and he doesn't need to follow the party line.

WHAT CRAPOLA!! He probably does have misgivings but has been pressured to conform.

27. at least there's Bingamin (sp?)
I'm in VA with Allen and Warner. You'd think Warner and Domenici, with their decades of experience in the Senate, would at least flinch before destroying the most important rule in that institution.

Don't get your hopes up. They're pukes through and through. For example, I remember Steve Bell, Domenici's Chief of Staff, telling my Legislative Policy class two years ago Domenici's idea of gun control is steadying the firing arm with the free arm.

33. That is a good idea
Send it to the biggest papers in your state, be VERY temperate in your remarks, do not exceed three or four paragraphs, but do mention the hanging up. Sign it, give them your address and phone (ask them not to publish it, of course) and your hometown.

They'll publish it, they love drama.
