Are FOX News in a Rating Free fall?
Fox News in Ratings Free Fall
Here's something you won't hear on Fox News -- ratings for the cable news channel have been plummeting since before the November election.

According to TV Newser, the number of people watching Fox during prime time in the 25 to 54 age bracket dropped in April for the sixth straight month.

And bleeding hearts to be all the rage. ;)

8. My first question would be:
Are the other cable networks experiencing a similar decline?

I would love to think that the sheeple are starting to actually think critically and are rejecting Fox for its propaganda, but it seems more likely that numbers that peaked before a presidential election might naturally decline as people turned to other interests.

If somebody can show that the rest of the cable "news" errr.. infotainment/scare channels were experiencing a less severe dropoff I might be inclined to believe it, but I hopld little faith that our Bush loving, magnectic bow bumpersticker loving, head in the sand countrymen are actually changing their attitudes in droves.

Just call me eeeyore.

15. Actually you should be happy with this quote then
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/fncs_2554_prime_downward_spiral_20939.asp

"Also: In April 2005, FNC's weekday primetime demo average decreased 25% compared to the year-ago, while CNN increased 27%:"

10. They are having huge problems with advertisers
The media upfront is going on now (it's the big annual marketplace where advertisers buy huge blocks of time... upfront) Anyway... Fox is meeting huge resistance with advertisers. Their numbers have been spiraling down the toilet since the election. None of their stars (Hannity, OReilly, etc) can draw anymore.... cause the audience have grown tired of their bloviated lies and blatant manipulation. Seriously... even the fundies can't stand em.

The thing is... Fox just caters to the lowest common denominator in society. And that's a losing game. No advertiser in their right mind is going to pay for that audience.

So they can keep on doing the obviously false "fair and balanced" schtick all day and night, they can keep being the media arm of the reich wing party and pretend that they have exclusive rights to be "god's own network" all they want.

Truth is... no one is buying it.

11. So what youre saying is:
If an advertiser wants to sell Rhinestone applicators or pocket fishermen or Elvis commemorative dish sets, then Fox is the way to go.

13. "Upfront" is a trend predictor.
I'm speculating that this means FAUX is losing car ads, financial ads, big ticket item ads.

In order to keep these big guys, they may well have to drop their prices.

Here's a linl for more info; watch this space, because it will be periodically updated.

He'll probably order Hannity and O'Reilly to become liberals to boost his ratings. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

20. Before Franken, Media Matters & Air America...
Nobody really challenged Fox on their daily lies, exaggerations, half-truths, etc. After Franken's book came out, and then Air America started broadacasting & Media Matters started their daily debunkings, the tide may be shifting.
